Is their a thirty day waiting period in California for rifle and shotgun purchases. I looked on the doj firearms website and saw nothing so i was looking for some help. I wanna buy a shotgun and a rifle and was wondering if i could buy both in the same month or what. would appreciate any help. thank you

The waiting period is 240 hours (10 days) and yes you can buy a rifle and shotgun in the same month. When you have completed all the paperwork the seller should give you a form that has the time and date that is the earliest you can pick up the weapon.

I lived there till late last year so the law may have changed.

But up until I moved I was able to buy as many firearms as I wanted in any length of time as long as I bought them from private individuals.

I tended toward collector's items so that's usually how I bought, anyway.

One A Month

There is a handgun limit in the Golden State. You can only purchase one per month. But here in Nevada there are no such restrictions. In fact, there are not many at all. In less time then it takes Jiffy Lube to service your car you can walk out of a gunshop with a handful of pistols, AR-15's, and 20 round magazines. :D

ok i knew about the ten day waitig period to pick up the firarm but i didnt know if it wa slike a pistol with a 30 day waiting period thank you very much for the help.

The ten day waiting period is for all firearms. You can only purchase a NEW handgun every 30days. You can purchase as many rifles/shotguns you want but after you pay for them and pass the background check you have to wait 10 days to pick it up.

hmm thats interesting, here in NY they call over the phone and you know right then and there if you can buy, thats for a long gun though. Not sure about pistols, know on your first one at least there's a 6 month waiting period in effect now... bah

I'm pretty sure if you buy both the rifle and the shotgun at the same time you will only have to pay one DROS fee also. Mark

in fact if you dros a pistol, you can also buy as many rifles and shotguns as you wish on the same DROS, it's completely legal, but your FFL may not want to do it to keep the BATFE off their back.

So you have to pay a fee and wait 10 days before you can buy a long gun in Kalifornistan? WTF Maybe we can get real lucky and a big quake will just rip Kalifornistan off the continent and dump it into the ocean. So if you are a member of this forum and live in Kalifornistan, evacuate now. If my wish comes true, I'd hate to see the people with smarts and common sense get hurt. LOL

Yeah, all of us "Kalifornistan subjects" with smarts and common sense should have moved to Ohio long ago. Thanks, but no thanks. Keep your buckeyes, and we'll just keep on fighting for the rights of all California citizens to keep and bear arms. Sorry, but we don't tuck and run, we would rather stand and fight. We are not the French, and our far superior wines and cheese prove it. Not to mention that we shave and bathe with some regularity. Well, most of us, anyway. Yes, our gun laws suck, but we will continue to protect our interests. Wolfsong.

Antburner

I think two topics are getting mixed together: 1) the waiting period and 2) the number of guns you can buy. I left Cali two years ago. At the time I left, you had to wait at least 10 days before you could pick up any new firearm. You could buy only one new pistol per 30 days. You could buy as many new long guns as you could afford. I never bought any used firearms, so I don't know anything about that.

Things in Cali can change quickly, so my two-year-old info may now be out-of-date. When it comes to firearms in Cali, that usually means not for the better. The CA Attorney General has a website where you can get the info you need. (The site may be listed as CA DOJ; I can't remember.)

Gun shows are neat here in Texas. It is just too easy, You can walk in carrying whatever you want. No one looks at you funny carrying even a 50 bmg on your back. You can walk in and buy 50 hand guns, a crate of ammo, a few boxes of .50 ammo, and no one cares. It is really really wierd. No waiting period, nothing. I dont think they call the "Bureau of all things wonderful"

I'll fight for your interests too Wolfsong. As they are also my interests. But I'll do it from Ohio LOL. Thank you for letting me keep my buckeyes LOL. Think Swarzeneggar has ever shot a gun? I doubt it. I'd like to see some crime rate statistics after all these waiting periods were put into effect. Every "expert" here said crime was going to skyrocket when the concealed carry laws were put into effect here in Ohio. Guess what, they went down. Maybe you could print out some of these FACTS and mail them to your Govenor. Funny how a state like Ohio (in which you can buy as many long guns as you wish in a single day) has a far lower crime rate than a gun law ridden state such as Kalifornistan. Your law makers in your state are really dropping the ball over there and I feel very bad for the good hard working citizens that are just plain harrased by these types of laws. Do they actually think Joe gang banger is going to by a gun at a gun shop then go murder someone with it registered in his name? LOL He'd have to be mentally retarted to do that. No, they buy one off the street from Joe crack dealer and go "bust a cap in some ass". The people buying guns at shop's and having them registered are the one's with totally good intentions. To make a totally responsible citizen wait 10 days just to get a shotgun is totally rediculous to me. Absurd. These are the kind of letters and e-mails you should be sending to your senators and representatives. Maybe some words of common sense can get these numbskulls thinking on their own again.

ur right

but i dont think boxer or feinstein give a dam frankly. they would be happy if there were no guns period in the state. look at San Francisco outlawing trying to outlaw handguns and the courts luckily struck it down. feinstein was support of the bill so were lucky to have any guns. so asking for senate help would be worthless.

Think Swarzeneggar has ever shot a gun? Yes.

He served in the Austrian military. He also forgot to lock the brakes on his tank and had it roll down the road and crush some vehicles as well. He also went AWOL to further his bodybuilding career. The brass punshed him but also praised him for his willingness to sacrifice for his dreams. The man is a good person. Still we all make mistakes.

I suspect he looked better wearing his tank helmet than Dukakis did.

Regardless, the rules in Cali change a lot. Given the militant anti-gun attitude of Boxer, Feinstein, and other Cali pols (anti-, that is, for everyone except them and their friends), you are best served by checking the most recent dictates, er, laws of the state.
