California Sucks! Let me Count the ways.

I have been a California Resident most of my life (34 Years) except for 9+ years in the Air Force. I currently live in California, but I am planning my escape to Idaho.

I thought I would list some of the things I have noticed in the last several years that lead me to the conclusion "California Sucks!".

1. Assault Weapons Ban - Even after the ban was lifted in just about every other state in the Nation, California still has it.

2. Convoluted Handgun laws preventing many handguns from being sold here (kel-tec comes to mind).

3. Prices - I don't know if the California gun shops are being charged more on their end (I doubt it), but why are firearms 30%+ more than other states? Then you add sales tax and you are paying close to 40% more here than other non-sales tax states. Then, if you try to get a firearm from out of state the FFL's here want like $100 for a transfer.

4. CCW limitations - I live in Kern County, and if i I was going to stay I would apply (Kern County is supposed to be a little easier). But the rest of the state is pretty much a No-Issue.

5. Magazines limited to 10 rounds. For HD/SD what if there are multiple attackers? 15 rds in a single magazine would be much faster than swapping in another.

6. Boxer & Feinstein

Those are just some of the things off the top of my head. I'm not going to go into the Cost of living, Utilities, Gasoline, Crappy Air (central valley has the worst air in the nation, LA is 2nd worse).

I'm sure I missed a bunch of other stuff, please chime in if you have anything to add to the list.

The only thing that sucks worse than California is a California-bashing thread. I'm glad you're able to move to a nicer state and all, but can't you just walk away and be done with it? After all, we've been over this stuff many times before, and some of us simply have to stay here for reasons of our own.

Tim

Vote with your checkbook, Brother. If you don't like the laws there, don't live there! I sure as heck don't!

I just bet you'd find the TN laws more appealing, and the standard of living is WAY better, too.

I wouldn't live in a nation run by a religious dictatorship for several very good reasons, and I won't live in California for similar reasons.

Tim ... Sorry, you can't leave. :o

Samurai ... That's exactly what I am doing. Looking for a job in Boise right now. :)

Hotwls13,
I grew up in California, though it has been many years ago, and I still have family there. Your plan to leave CA is certainly the best way to go but for those of you that can't there is an alternative:
1. Move to Mexico and renounce your U.S Citizenship.
2. Now re-enter California. You are now officially an Illegal Alien.
3. DO NOT let anyone know that you speak and understand english.
4. Enjoy the multitude of benefits that will be bestowed upon you. Free medical care, food stamps, welfare, free housing, etc, etc, etc. It may not help with the gun situation but life should be pretty good otherwise. You could probably even register to vote (Dem anyway). On second thought, it may even help with gun and other legal matters. Que?, Que?, No Comprende! seems to work pretty well as a defense but only if you are an illegal

^^ Funny!

I could also then buy a lottery ticket and win 50 million. Pretty soon, I would have a drivers license too. Oh yeah, it's also pretty convenient that everything here is in spanish.

You left out:

7) Pelosi
8) No suppressors
9) No NFA weapons including Full Auto
10) Must have certificate to buy handgun
11) Overpopulated with anti-gunners
12) extensive range closures due to urban encroachment
13) No mandatory CCW. For the most part, discretionary issue means no issue especially in the coastal counties.
14) Anti-Military (base closures due to anti-military atitude of politicians)
15) 50 caliber ban.

I spent 38 years in Illinois until we left in 1991. It wasn't much better, and has gotten much worse since we left. There is no way I could live in a state like that anymore. You'll be a lot happier when you get out of there. In the 60's California was the place to be. Now it's the place to be from! Bill T.

So sad

for the good people in places like California, New York, Mass, New Jersey, and a few others. I escaped New York a bit over 30 years ago, and have been living in comparative freedom ever since.

It seems that when the population reaches a certain density, the control freaks come out of the woodwork, and all kinds of restrictive measures get into law. And not just with gun laws.

California could be a wonderful place, except for what people have done to it. It once was. So was the rest of the country. Once. My sympathies.

FWIW, I remember reading somewhere that something like 60% of the people in California who are worth more than 1 million (based on tax returns) have left the state within the past few years. I (don't really) wonder why?

rick_reno Yep, but it's usually got pretty good weather.

Actually it was pretty nice today, but the air quality was/is horrible. Here in Bako, we have two seasons HOT and RAIN with a bit of good weather in-between. How's the weather in Idaho? Are you in the Boise area?

Yep, but it's usually got pretty good weather.

Great surfing spots, too. But aside from that, the traffic, cost of living, and regulations are pushing me out. I'm Arizona bound.

"I'm Arizona bound."

If your coming to Phoenix don't expect the traffic to be much better. We've got pretty much the same as you. Overcrowded freeways, plenty of illeagles driving around causing accidents with no insurance, housing costs going thru the roof, everybody and their brother moving here, etc. But we don't have Nancy Pelozi, Barbara Boxer, or Dianne Fienstien and all their Kool-Aid drinking friends.
