NO! We are kinda cacooning. We are re-organizing in preparation for our NEXT EFFORT TO QUALIFY OUR CALIFORNIA CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT FOR RKBA.
I had personally hoped to be able to announce our new name and board of directors my July 4th. However, that didn't happen.
1. Some of the organizations joining our coalition require approval of their boards and summer is not a good time that to happen.
2. MY recent job change and career developments have also slowed things down.
3. Don Kilmer (my partner) has also been busy with lawyering stuff.

WE W I L L RETURN with another petition drive, and this time we WILL succeed.

Our next important decisions are WHEN we announce, WHEN we file papers, WHEN we kick off, and WHEN we submit signatures.

I have abandoned ANY hope of convincing the NRA they should help us. We are not going to divert OUR focus, attention or energy in trying to force them to do what they clearly won't. We will proceed (and we will succeed) without them.

The NRA will pursue THEIR agenda, and WE will pursue OURS.
Let's not waste time complaining about what could, should, or ought to be, and deal with the demanding REALITY we face.

We will be announcing our Coalition's Board of Directors, and we WILL be raising money. We will continue to function primarily as a GRASSROOTS / Volunteer organization, however, we will supplement our volunteer signature gathering effors with PAID SIGNATURE GATHERERS.

REMEMBER, this isn't just about guns.......it is about Freedom, Liberty, inalienable Rights.

Your faithful servant,

An article I just wrote for KABA bears slightly on the VTG situation: http://www.keepandbeararms.com/newsarchives/XcNewsPlus.asp?cmd=view&articleid=342

The NRA had some very serious concerns about the VTG thing being bad timing in light of the November elections. They were concerned that it might divert cash and energy away from taking back the assembly, and that it might create an "anti-gun rush to the polls" if it made the ballot but went unsupported.

Where VTG is at right now, they can't make the November ballot. Which means the NRA's objections just evaporated. I think Geoff and Don should hook back up with Chuck Michel, the NRA's lead counsel in CA, and craft a straight-up shall-issue CCW initiative. The NRA Member's Council system is the largest grassroots group in the state in any issue, and by rejoining them despite past differences, Geoff and Don can really make something happen by the Spring elections.

And THIS time, dump the restraining order language! 44 states have RKBA in their constitutions, and off hand I can't think of one which explicitly gives judges the authority to take it away from somebody without their being found mentally incompetent or being convicted of a crime by a JURY.

That was one thing that bugged me about this effort; And Kilmer couldn't seem to grasp why it upset so many people that their amendment would have made RKBA a second class right, deniable at a judge's whim.
