California Carbine?

Is there such an animal now? I live in CA and find myself ISO a nice carbine...mostly for target/plinking FUN :D
What are my choices?

GI .30 carbine is the only one I know of, well that and the Mini 14 or 30. Californians are a strange breed. I personally can't wait until my tour of duty is done here.

Of the three rifles I mentioned, I prefer the GI .30 Carbine myself.

Also lever action short barrels, Ruger PC series, M1A "Scout", bolt actions, etc.

Not to mention the variety of C&R rifles available for the less than two bills.

And don't forget about the 10/22. It fits all of your needs, in addition to using ammo that is inexpensive and readily available.

SKS's are still an option in CA ... they must have the fixed magazine, but stripper clips work great.

Must resort to oddballs

I had a Mech-Tech Carbine Conversion for a 1911 that worked great and used 1911 mags. I sold it and found a Marlin Model 45 Camp Carbine that also uses 1911 mags. The Marlin is, shamefully IMHO, no longer manufactured.

Other choices I would consider include the Ruger in 9MM.

Regards.
