In all seriousness can anyone explain to me
why Calif. continues on it left movement
into socialism. Is it the schools, high tech.
workers, large figure incomes, is it the
result of so many ethnic groups. They seem
to be our most anti-gun state however some
back east are catching up. If Calif. mirrors
our future it does not look good.
Someone explain to an old guy.
Just call me confused in texas.

I wouldn't blame it on the ethnic groups because asians own as many firearms per capita as whites. And Texas,Arizona, and Florida have a lot of hispanics and those are very pro-gun states.

Its something in the water and air.All people change to the left when they move there so it has to be.

I attribute most of CA's problems to too high of a population density in the metro areas (more people = more laws). Simplistic, but true. Look at most other high density areas of the country. And........the destruction of constitutional rights under the guise of "the war on drugs". When will Americans wake up?! Prohibition, no matter what the inanimate object is, does NOT work! The war on drugs is a flop to all but the drug lords and the US government, both who profit immensely from it.

I agree with the "more people=more laws"
and less freedom. I said this on another
board and was told I was way off base,
however how can it be any other way.Fill
the boat and everyone has to sit down.

Its the Hollywood spin on reality. Guilt over their wealth means they have to "champion the little guy" in some misguided way to make up.

And because they deal in sound bites rather than in reality, they never realize that disarming citizens ENCOURAGES criminals, that supporting an immoral President weakens the moral character of our youth, and that legislating away the consequenses of bad behavior (abortion on demand, curing rather than preventing AIDS, etc.) encourages bad behavior.

Well, I grew up in Texas but I've lived in California for a little more than a decade, and this is how I see it:

In California as well as Massachusetts, New York and northern Illinois, one sees comparatively large concentrations of a particular kind of inherited wealth. Not wealth in the form of a business which has to be maintained by a savvy owner or else quickly disappear, but stuff like trust funds and annuities which any damn fool can live well on indefinitely.

In addition, we have a larger than usual proportion of people who work in the emotion-manipulation business -- that is, entertainment and advertising.

Both these groups share in common two traits: they have a lot of money to throw around, and the worlds they live in are disconnected from reality.

This is how liberal Democrats come to power more easily here than in places like Texas, Florida, or Arizona.

(By the way, I work in entertainment so I know something whereof I speak, but am also living proof that you don't have to be a psychopath to work in this field. At least my wife says so.)

It is interesting to note in CA, if you look at most any issue county by county, how they voted. The most densly populated areas always vote liberal, ie.. LA county San Fran etc. While the rural counties vote conservative.

I believe the reason is the type of living one does. In the rural communities, one is forced to work. You are brought up with chores to do. You are given responsiblities and with those the rewards. City living is different. There one joins a gang to keep from becoming a victim. Not much to do except go to the mall and hang out. While in the country you hardly have time to get into trouble.

The debate is not about guns,
but rather who has the ultimate power to rule,
the People or Government.

The truth is that California gun laws are not as bad as everyone thinks. They are not good . . . but they are far worse in places like Illinois, New Jersey, Mass. MD., D.C. NY etc.

The reason Calif. is getting so much attention is that there are more NRA members here and there is more of a shooting tradition.

It seems like the NRA & GOA don't give a hoot what happens in the above mentioned areas ..... and probably because there are not as many members there.

I heard that the number one determinate on whether someone will be a gun owner is if their parents were also gun owners. In the states with the worst gun control laws, there is not a gun owning tradition.

I'm with Mr. Pib: the laws of most Eastern states are far worse than Kalifornia's. Of course the statists here are working on it.

I agree 100% with the notion that a higher concentration of urban dwellers equates into harsher gun laws.

As someone living in rural Northern Kalifornia this fact hits home all too hard. The vast majority of Kalifornians live in the urban areas, and because BOTH houses of our legislature are proportioned by population rather than by district, we in rural areas have absolutely no say in our affairs (they can steal our water and other resources more easily this way).

Our Congressional and state districts here are larger than a good number of states (about 300 miles north-south down the coast and up to 100 miles east-west!). What really bites is that most of the population inside our district lives in bedroom Sonoma County 200 miles south and tends to vote liberal since they are Bay Area commuters and transplants.

So even in our own district we have little say.

Greetings,

Bullet44 said it best: Fill up the boat and everyone has to sit down.

Also, the more people that want to live here, the more expensive it gets. Everybody gets here expecting a better life, and too damn many of them are willing to lie, cheat and steal to get it.

The Beez has it right that too many people here live lives that are disconnected from reality. I include those on welfare with the trust fund brats. Freedom is terrifying to them because it threatens the predictability of them getting their check on time.

Finally, we have the most corrupt state legislature in the nation. The FBI busted some of them a few years ago for selling favors to representatives of companies that didn't even exist. The FBI gave them money, and they passed state laws. People v. Allen Robbins.

Regards and save me a place in Arizona or Texas (I promise to vote like a gun owner),

California is an odd place. It can go left and right on various different issues. On immigration, affirmitive action, bilingual ed, Californians are very right but then in the same year we'll have left stuff on legalization of medical marijuana which will pass by same huge margins.

When it comes to guns, CA sucks...but for other conservative ideals it works out...No Affirmitive Action in any state run offices, colleges or Universities. Bilingual Ed has been replaced with immersion and scores are going up way up. If you are a non-smoker...great state because smokers can't smoke in stores, restaurants, bars etc.

Like I said, weird state.

How far left will CA go? Until it falls into the Pacific Ocean.

Seriously, though, can anyone name me another city (besides LA) that prints voter tickets in 13 languages?? Duh, if you want to exercise your 'civil duties' shouldn't it be in the majority language of this city? That's not criticism, really. Just name me another city where it occurs, please.

And Yep, I was a glutton for punishment. We've lived in Bay Area twice. Two and one half years in So. San Francisco & Fremont. Then another two and a half years in Oakland. So been there, done that. Colorado isn't looking any better right now though.

It is the "Cosmopolitan Culture" against the "Bedrock Culture".

A stark contrast here in NY State. I've stood on a street in Manhattan and it is truly another planet compared to upstate Western NY which is like being in the midwest.

People from upstate are much closer to the land so to speak and guns and hunting in particular. Most people brought up in Manhattan have absolutely no comprehension of hunting or guns in general. Thus they glean any knowledge of the subject from the overwhelmingly negative Leftist media based in NY City.

Add to that the higher population in the cities relative to the country areas and you have an overwhelmingly Liberal, anti-gun agenda being forwarded.

NYC and to a lesser extent some of the upstate cities usually run the political agenda. That's how Chuckie won the Senate. He simply got the vote out in the overwhelmingly Democratic city areas. That and a bunch of lard-ass gunowners who didn't get to the polls to oppose him.

One of the few things I like about CA, besides the weather. It sure is nice to sit down for a meal in a restaurant and not smell the stink of smoke in the air while eating my steak.
