Calico Liberty III

I'm looking for information about the Calico Liberty III pistols. I had never seen one until very recently and it has gotten my interest. I have done searches here and with a general search engine but haven't found much usefull info. I would assume that it would be considered a "preban assault weapon". As far as I could determine there would be no restrictions on ownership here in TN. It seems very unusal with its 50 and 100 round top feed mags.
The sighting system is also strange with the rear sight being on top of the magazine. I guess for intended ranges that it would be accurate enough as long as the magazine attached firmly with no movement.
I would appreciate any information from anyone that has had any experience with the pistol or the rifles. I am particularly interested in information on legalities and any features that would make it function differently from any other semi-auto pisol.
Thanks.

Spatula, thanks for the reply. I agree that a $1000 would be a lot to pay for a gun that while interesting ( and possibly fun to shoot) would seem to fall into the novelty category. However every now and then (very rarely for me) a deal comes along that is just too good to pass up. This is one of those times.
I would still like to hear from someone that has had a chance to try one out.
Thanks. TMD

I got to try one a few years ago. The pistol I shot was reliable, but I have heard that relaibility was a problem for the Calico guns. If you're going to buy one, try to get a chance to shoot it first. I know it's not always possible, but it won't hurt to ask.

Overall I liked it. The rotary magazine can be left fully loaded indefinitely and be ready to fire with just a few twists of the wrist. This feature also makes loading very easy because there's no spring pressure to fight when loading a box, or two, into one.
