caliber shotgun?

9mm shotguns were popular as "garden guns" a century or so ago. Great for small garden-eating critters like rabbits, moles, etc. Quiet, easy for even the smallest woman or child to shoot, they served their purpose.

From one of the Yahoo-type Q&A sites:

The 9mm shotgun was first made in England where it acquired the name "Garden Gun". It actually fires a rim fire "shot shell" available in shot sizes from 6 to 8 shot. As stated it was made for garden pests. They never caught on in the US, but winchester did make on for awhile called the model 36.

I want to be as smart as OneOunce when I grow up .... ( holy cow man, nicely explained ) ! ( Of course I have no idea if its true or not ??) :D

I ALMOST bought one once at one of the Reno gun shows, until the guy was nice enough to tell me ammo might be hard to find.........Barrels smaller than a 410 in diameter.........might have worked well on noisy neighborhood cats.....:D

(I didn't say that!) The gun, IIRC, was about 4 # maybe a little more.....

Interestingly enough the place where I saw the cal.9 shotgun for sale (new at Chiappa) also had a cal.6 shotgun. Must have been to shoot the fleas from the rats. :D

I don't remember seeing anything about ammo, but since they are actually making them there must ammo somewhere. Of course it might be available only in Europe.

I think I'll check it out again and see if they say anything about getting ammo.

Other - than just because they're a little different ....

what in the world would your purpose be in having / or shooting something where the ammo was expensive or hard to come by .....that a .410 or a 28ga wouldn't do better ...( most of the time at least ) ...just curious ....

I guess I missed where someone said they planned to get one.

The link I posted in #2 is to an ammo sales site. Looks like they have 9 mm rimfire shells at $40 per 50. Not cheap, but at least inexpensive enough to get a box to play around with if you find an interesting gun.
