Caldwell Fire Control Rest??

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have first hand experience with this rest?? Im just getting into 50 yard benchrest (CZ 452) and have tried a series of different rests. The combos that I have been using are a Caldwell BR front rest with a rear shooters ridge bag. The problem that I am having is that everytime I work the bolt, I have to readjust the rifle, and it ALWAYS seems to me that I am fighting with the rear bag. Most of the time, I feel I am putting to much pressure on the rifle to keep the crosshairs on target, due to me fighting the rear bag.

I looked at the fire control from caldwel, and figure that the ease of adjustment in the front can compensate for all the fighting I am doing with the rear bag.

Any thoughts?? Maybe my technique is all wrong. Like I said, benchrest is a new type of shooting for me! THANKS!!

That's why I don't like bench rest, bipods, rest, 'n such. I like a good solid position that allows me to roll back to the target (with good POI and Sight Picture) as I recover from recoil.

Everything recoils, even 22s, plus as you mentioned, operation of the bolt.

I like to shoot, hold the trigger to the rear and after recoil, fall back into position naturally, with sights back on target (some where along the lines of "follow through". I can't get that with rest and bipods.

I know this isn't what you asked, but instead of spending money on a rest, try a good firm sling position and see if that works.

In rapid fire with a bolt gun, (I use the crooked leg prone position), after you recover from recoil, you roll slightly to the left (right handed shooter), work the bolt without removing the stock from your shoulder, as you slam the bolt home you fall back on your right elbow, and should be back to your natural point of aim.

My brother-in-law has one and loves it. He uses it for working up hunting loads and claims very good results with it.
