Cabelas Sale .223 ammo

Not much of a rifle guy myself but Cabela's sent me an email about a sale, American Eagle .223 20 rd boxes for $5.29 and a deal on shipping if you order enough. This appeared to be a good deal so I figured I'd make mention of it.
 
I bought some of this at this price, because I wanted the FC brass. Accuracy leaves a lot to be desired though. Also this is a bit like some of the Remington MC (Metallic Case) stuff. It's not a real copper jacket. I've often wondered how those steel/alloy jackets affect barrel wear.

IMO the better cheap FMJ is the PMC Bronze which has a proper copper jacket and in one of my rifles shoots right around MOA.

What bullet weight on that PMC, Sweet Shooter? I have been shooting the 55 grain in my AR-15s and my Colt lower/FN A2 upper will get roughly 4 to 5 inch groups with the PMC 55 grain FMJ at 100 yards.

My Noveske hates the stuff. I haven't managed to get better than a 6 inch group with the PMC 55 grain. The PMC 62 grain will give me 1 inch groups in this rifle.

The thing is, both rifles have a 1/7 twist. The only difference is the Noveske is a 14.5" and the Colt/FN is 20"
 
I think I just got a sick deal on .223. Dicks was having a sale on the Remington UMC 20 round boxes(buy one get one 50% off), and I had a get $40 off any purchase over 200 dollars coupon for them. I then did my math and broke it down like this:

7.99 a box, second box is 3.99 so every 2 boxes is 11.98, multiply by 5 and you get 10 which is a whole case. Thats 59.99 per case (64.18 with sales tax in my state)

So I bought 3 cases which added up to 192.54 with tax. I purchased a box of of .22LR at 6.98 (7.46 with tax) to make my balance $200.00 flat. Gave the coupon for the $40 off and bam walked away with 600 rounds of .223 and 100 rounds of .22LR for $160.00 :D

Did I need any .223 with all the 5.56 I got? Nope, was it worth 26 cents a round? YES

55 gr. — it's only with one of my rifles (M700 24 inch sporter) and shoots about 2MOA in everything else.

I think that UMC is the stuff I'm talking about when I say it is not a copper jacket.

i ordered an extra 400 even though i ordered 500 from palmetto yesterday cant pass up a deal and it certainly shots minute of soda can :eek:
