I have been eying these for the past year to go with my 8". They are on sale for $189. I don't know how much longer I resist. I habe been shooting .45 LC in SASS matches and have been thinking about switching to C&B just for the fun of it.

if you'd gotten one last week you could have gotten 20.00 off. If you get it now it's 5.00 shipping.

I have one of these....

.....from Pietta but it has a 6 1/2 inch barrel.

Date code is 2004. It is a nice pistol.

Do it! This one arrived from Cabela's a couple of weeks ago. Took advantage of the additional $20 off, and bought the spare cylinder. Thinking about buying another, too!

Awesome little pistol, buy it quick. :)
I load on a stand so the short lever doesn't bother me, but it's not that short.
It balances in my hand great, actually I like it better than a lot of my Colts (but don't tell anybody OK-they'll yell at me) and certainly better than a standard 1858.

I have 2 favorite revolvers:
This little Remmy and of all things-my Spiller& Burr. The latter is one of my favorite BP revolvers that no one ever talks about. Handles great, a little odd, but I love the topstrap. IMHO, it points like a 1973, but has a thinner frame. Great gun.

I have both the full sized '58 and the 5 1/2

Of the two I prefer the short barrel! If they never were made they should have been!
I am sure that Gunsmiths did a number of chop jobs on Civil war guns for Cowboys who needed an easy to carry holster gun. A couple inches of barrel sure makes it carry easier and there is no question about getting a shortened gun into action...
Back in the old days though the predominant thought was that longer barrels give you more power and I am sure that many full sized guns stayed that way just for the want of mazimum power. Perhaps the owners wanted a chop but they followed the thinking of the day.
It's funny, that soon as the 4 5/8 peacemaker came out it was very popular right off the bat! I guess the people figgured Colt did his homework and it was OK now.
Of all my BP revolvers I prefer my short '58 Remmie and my 6 1/2" Piettia Colt Police. both just "feel" right!
JMHO,

ZVP
