cabela/uberti single action revolver

Uberti makes an inexpensive single action revolver which I believe is their Cattleman with a black unpolished finish. I think Cabela's also sells these revolvers. What chemical(s), if any, would remove that black finish and if I did remove the finish, would the bare metal underneath at all resemble the "aged" finish they put on some of their other single action revolvers? They are cheap enough that I am considering experimenting with trying to make something that looks like it was made in the late 1800s.

Look for a product called CLR. Calcium, Lime and Rust remover. I uh,well, ahem, a friend, YEAH, a friend stripped theirs in a big Rubbermaid tub filled to cover the revolver. You need good ventilation, eye protection, rubber gloves and a rubber apron is nice. This is an acid. I sprayed 000 steel wool with Remoil to prevent rust and soaked and scrubbed to remove the finish. I mean my friend did! The brass gripframe was finished and given a high polish. Carborundum paper, emery cloth, a polishing kit and jewelers rouge were needed. If you want to "age" it after all that effort, try Birchwood Casey Browning solution. The cylinder flutes, lettering, notches and other recessed areas were spot cold blued with a small brush. The project turned out nice and "aged" in appearance. I er, my friend was looking to make a antique that seemed like it had been handed down for generations. The grips were replaced with a set of stained Ajax poly grips. They required epoxy and a LOT of patience. I don't suggest a person fit their own single action grips. LOL
