Cabalas Exclusive Savage Varminter

hmmmm, might have to do some research then.

The problem Im running into is that no shops have anything in stock right now, its hard to get a feel for the guns im looking at when I cant really touch them.

Savage 12 with fluted bull barrel

My old Savage 22-250 with a Leuopold scope weighs in at just over 10 pounds. It has a Duramax stock. For my shooting it is really nice. For sure, it is nose heavy and not what you want if you are looking for a quick, easy to carry hunting rifle. But for long range varminting, it is great.

There are advantages to a 10lb varmit rifle...

(Even) less felt recoil, better stability during aim and trigger pull, scope stays more stable during recoil so you can see your shot better.

Its bad if you have to hump it very far, though. Most people don't when they're varmiting.

Thoughts? Comments?

The shrewd shopper would have gone to the manufacturer's website and looked at the original varmit offerings. There the shopper would have discovered rifles with 26" barrels that ranged in weight up to 10 lbs. However, the shrewd shopper would have found the Model 12 FCSS that appars to be a decent match except for the barrel length and fluting and would have seen the original offering is only 8.75 lbs.

The BVSS is listed at 10 and has the same fluted barrel (but again at 26"_ but had a wood stock.

Suffice it to say that the Cabela's gun is going to be close to 10 lbs.

This is the same gun as the Savage Model 10 Pred Hunter Max1 Camo except that the stock isn't camo. I just bought one of these and they weigh 8.5 lbs. Cabela's is using "guesstimated" weights. If you're interested in the camo version contact Grabagun.com. I bought mine there and the price was unbeatable and the personal service is the best I ever received anywhere. Brent Cossey runs the operation and he is really customer focused. You can get ahold of him any day of the week via email and he responds very quickley.

I think "approximate" weight is used liberally by Cabellas in this case.

^This^

They make more money when they ship it, if they say it weighs 10 lbs instead of 8 lbs...

Either that or just a simple, "we sell so many different things that we don't have time to weigh them and just give everything an apporximate weight that may or may not be true" attitude.
