Another tragedy, but I'll bet not near the airplay as if it was by gunfire.

Four Calif. People Stabbed to Death

PICO RIVERA, Calif. (AP) -- An intruder apparently slipped into a home while a family was sleeping and stabbed four people to death, three of them children, police said.

A teen-ager who had been asleep in the house found her mother suffering from stab wounds about 3 a.m. Friday and ran next door to get help.

Officers who arrived at the suburban Los Angeles home found the bodies of a 42-year-old man, a 14-year-old girl and two boys, ages 10 and 17, sheriff's Lt. Marilyn Baker said. A 39-year-old woman was hospitalized with stab wounds, and three other girls in the house were unharmed.

Their identities and relationships were not immediately released, but neighbors said the man and woman were parents of four children and were raising two nieces.

Baker said the victims were apparently asleep when an intruder slipped in. Deputy Carlos Lopez said that there were no signs of forced entry but that no scenario had been ruled out.

The wounded woman described the intruder to deputies as a young man in his 20s, Deputy David Cervantes said.

The killings occurred during a heat spell, and neighbors worried that the killer may have taken advantage of windows left open at night.

''This is the last time I'm sleeping with the windows open,'' said Mari Estrada, who lives a block away in the working-class neighborhood, about 10 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

I told my wife about this. We are an hour away from there.

She asked me "how come we haven't heard anything about this?".

Of course I replied "because it wasn't done with a gun".

A common kitchen knife is an unbelievably deadly item. I am not shocked in the least that someone could kill four people with it before they could even wake up.
In this case it was deadlier than a gun because it allowed the killer to attack five people and get away without alerting anyone or being caught.

Although I feel for the victims, IMO, that father let his family down.
It is the fathers responsiblity to protect his family, through whatever means. If that means a couple of big dogs, then that is a good start. An alarm system. Bars on the windows if you insist on sleeping with the windows open. A person does not have to be an extremist, but as the husband in my family I take personal responsibility (what's that?) for my family's safety. That means housing a couple of big dogs, having an alarm, and a gun. The Alarm keeps them out and warns me of a break-in, the dogs do the same as well as protect, and the gun is the final backup if it gets to that point. Oh yeah, and a cell phone and flashlight by the bed.
Anyway, I know this judgement sounds harsh, but IMO, that father let his family down and wimped out on his duty when he failed to set up any type of protection for his family. Even a little dog would have made all the difference in keeping the bad guy from sneaking in with no warning.
But of course "It will never happen to me".

Doesn't everyone get it? According to the BATF, hci, and other anti people say it's okay to kill someone with a knife or bat but not with the gun because the gun made them do it in the first place. You see, the knife and bat are tools, used to stab, cut or hit things. No danger or evil in these items. But, on the other hand, a gun is not made for hunting, self defense, or hobby but is evil and will make the nicest of people go insane; to become evil. So, in this event, according to those above, neither the knife or the person is at fault... it's the fault of you and I who live in this world; or even the world; maybe even the sun (we did have some magnetic storms lately); or even the sneakers he had on. But don't you dare blame it on the person (criminal) or the knife (a nice safe cutting/stabbing instrument).

Tragically, this story is proof positive that murderous intent doesn't require a gun to accomplish itself. I feel the elite media would rather ignore these crimes because such a story doesn't push the disarming of gun-owning Americans agenda. It is an alarming, awful event, but, of course, why on Earth would we want to outlaw knives? The thrust of this issue points toward the individual being the impetus of the killing, not the weapon itself and, thus, goes against the grain of the anti-gun logic that guns might turn sensible individuals into killing machines. It's funny . . . all I thought about today while I was shooting was a firm grip, steady sight picture, and squeezing the trigger while shooting cans.

Of course this won't get much play ... leftists are liars, and when gun / citizen control is your goal, articles like this just muddy the water.

jdthaddeus, I must generally agree with you.

If you don't have a perimeter alarm on your house, try to get one ... they've come down in price, and they're invaluable. It helps to at least have a little notice that your perimeter has been breached in the night.

And, you can have extra 'contacts' installed on windows and doors. Better to keep them shut, but if you must leave them open at night, having a second set of contacts will allow you to do so ... and, if an intruder opens the window / door further, the alarm is triggered.

May these poor people rest in peace, and I hope the BG meets a decisive end, very soon.

This is just the type of thing to mobilize efforts to pass some "common sense legislation" banning the sale and possession of steak knives, I mean they are only made to cut through flesh, so I think lockyer should add them to the 89 AW BILL.

My window is always open inviting would be bad guys in, just watch out for the 870 or 1911 that you might step on. Can do nasty things to ones groin or calf.
Speaking of windows I opened mine wide as day when the night stalker was loose hoping hed try that ???? with me. Of course I was a little more rash in my younger days as I keept a 30rd mag ready then.

Oatka, wow now that's the liberal press for ya: :) I tried opening the link to the article, but only recieved a message stating that the page no longer existed. Now you know the REALLY don't want the story out when that happens. ;)

Here's another one:

Two young teens (13y/o & 14y/o) were bludgeoned to death on an elementary school playground last night. It was a pretty decent neighborhood, but these kids recently got interested/hooked on drugs and they were reportedly going to meet a dealer at this school.

The scene was described as "gruesome" and "blood everywhere, the jungle gym, slide, everywhere."

A fair amount of coverage is being done, probably because of their age, but nowhere near what it would be if the weapon had been a firearm.

We must have more KNIFE CONTROL laws! Too many people are dying from these EVIL things! All knives must be confiscated so that we can make the world a safer place for the children.

You boys and girls just don't get it, do you? You see, those four people, murdered by a knife, are not really, really, really dead: they're just "kinda" dead. If they'd been murdered by an evil gun, they'd have been really, really, really dead.

By the way, I just read an article where two 13 year old boys in La Crescenta, Kalif., were beaten to death in a school yard playground. They were bludgeoned so badly they were almost unrecognizable. One was the son of a Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff.

Oh, they were beaten to death by a playground concrete bench. So, they're just "kinda" dead.

A knife is as deadly as a 9mm at arm's reach. Probably even more so,
and the knife can serve a utility purpose, whereas the gun is only a
defense tool.

Proper training given (and, yes, I have been trained in this art), one
can develop much better stopping power and lethality than with
standard pocket carry guns. And you never run out of ammo.
