Perhaps someone should tell Sgt. Bob Anderson that three of those five were out on parole, "It's just a pattern of outrageous conduct," he said. "Why they would suddenly go out and do something like this is beyond me." Duh!

Five men jailed after crime spree in county
VENTURA AND CAMARILLO: Robberies, stabbings victimize at least six. Five arrested at fast-food restaurant.
By Aron Miller, Ventura County Star writer
Five men were in jail Monday accused of a crime spree that spanned two cities and included robberies, stabbings and at least six victims, authorities said.
The suspects were arrested at a fast-food restaurant about two hours after the mayhem began with the beating, stabbing and robbery of a 65-year-old man in Ventura.
Throughout their crimes, the men yelled,
"Santa Paula!" which could be a gang slogan. Police are not sure if all or any of the men are gang members, Ventura Police Sgt. Bob Anderson said.
"It's just a pattern of outrageous conduct," he said. "Why they would suddenly go out and do something like this is beyond me."
Arrested were: Michael Joseph Fernandez, 22; David Cortez, 18; Hector Aguayo, 19; and Jesse Perez, 18, all of Santa Paula, and Ernest Kevin Borrego Jr., 19, of Fillmore.
Four of the men were jailed with bail set at $50,000. Fernandez was jailed on a parole hold. All of them face charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and criminal conspiracy.
Anderson gave the following account of what happened:
The spree started about 7:20 p.m. Sunday when five men attacked Sheldon Brown, 65, of Ventura as he walked near Ash and Buena Vista streets. They beat him and stabbed him with a screwdriver.
Soon after, the group beat up and robbed JohnCustodio Jr., 35, of Ventura at Laurel and Santa Clara streets. They took cash before fleeing in a vehicle similar to one Brown described to officers.
Just before 8 p.m., Paul Rangel had bought some drinks at a store near Mills and Telegraph roads when the suspects jumped him, took his beverages and stabbed him, again using a screwdriver.
Timothy Sanchez, 23, of Ventura was attacked and stabbed between 8 and 9 p.m. in the 600 block of Cedar Street.
The marauding continued about 9 p.m. when Marcelino De Los Santos, 18, of Camarillo and Rosa Mu--oz, 22, of Ventura were assaulted inside their car parked at the Century 16 Theaters near JohnsonDrive.
And at 9:20 p.m., police responded to a robbery at the Edwards Theaters in Camarillo in which the suspects fled in a similar vehicle used in the previous crimes.
About 30 minutes later, Ventura Police Officer Brian Hewlett spotted a vehicle matching the description and saw potential suspects sitting inside a Jack In The Box inthe 11000 block of Citrus Drive.
Officers brought some of the victims to the restaurant, and they identified the suspects. None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.
Three of the five men have criminal records, according to court records.
Fernandez recently was paroled from Wasco State Prison after serving eight months for violating his probation three times following a 1996 armed robbery conviction, records show.
Borrego Jr. pleaded guilty to petty theft in June 1999 and was placed on probation. Aguayo was convicted of drug violations in February and received probation.
