To All,
This is a follow up to my previous post.
I am sending this to clear up any chance
that my prior post could be misunderstood.
When I discussed the idea of contacting
campaign offices.
I AM SPEAKING OF INCUMBENTS ONLY!!
There is no purpose in contacting challengers
or open seat races as they can not help or
hurt us prior to the elections.
Again this is a very delicate issue and those of
you who are planning to try this, need to use
extreme care in how you handle this and who
you contact.
Thank you for listening,

Ed just called (10:07 a.m.) AB 273 just got out of Senate Appropriations
(9 to 4)
committee. Please call your Senators, as the bill moves to the Senate
now. Note end of Legislation is Thursday, August 31st.
Here are the votes (9-4)
Senator Pat Johnston (Chair) 5 Yes
Senator Tim Leslie (Vice Chair) 1 No
Senator Dede Alpert 39 Yes
Senator Debra Bowen 28 Yes
Senator John Burton 3 Yes
Senator Martha Escutia 30 Yes
Senator Ross Johnson 35 No
Senator Betty Karnette 27 Yes
Senator David G. Kelley 37 No
Senator Bruce McPherson 15 Yes
Senator Richard Mountjoy 29 No
Senator Don Perata 9 Yes
Senator John Vasconcellos 13 Yes
This vote appears to be along straight party lines.
I spoke personally with Johnston, and at great length
with Leslies aide (their districts adjoin).
Leslie's guy said Johnston carries a lot of Davis' water
in the assembly. His yes vote tells me that this is
a concerted Democratic party effort to push licensing as
a campaign issue...I don't think Davis will veto it.
I think it will backfire with voters, and it is up to us
(and the Republican campaign leaders) to turn their percieved
asset into a real liability at the polls. The media will
make this a formidable challenge.
