c96 Chamber Issues

IMG_0167.JPGI bought a 30's manufacture 7.63 chambered c96 recently. I got it cheap, but got what I paid for. While cleaning and assessing the gun I discovered a part of the last shell fired still lodged in the chamber. Couldn't be seen before cleaning due to the accumulated crud. I successfully extracted the remnant and am now looking for a "go, no go, field" head space kit and can't seem to find one. I would prefer to check it this way. Would having a mold of the chamber cast and measured be a good substitute? Suggestions? Would a 7.62x25 head space kit work? I will post pictures if necessary.

Hi. I am not a C96 expert.

However I wanted to mention that there is a 'Curio & Relic' on this website, and it may pay to ask your question there as well.

Not clear what a headspace gauge would tell you or how to fix it if out.

I would test it with some good quality ammo.

CHRIS_B: Thanks I will search for the C&R thread. This is the first time I've used a forum so I'm learning how this all works.

Jim_Watson: I have thought about doing a test fire to se if more shells crack off like that. I'm just worried about damaging the gun any further. I guess I could load single rounds and remove the magazine spring and cover plate for safety.
