They say the C19 Canadian Ranger Rifle will be imported into the US but without the Canadian Ranger crest on the stock. Looks like a handy and versatile .308 rifle with great iron sights, something I've had in mind for a long time. This is the gun the Rangers chose to replace the Lee-Enfields they were using and I don't they could have made a better choice.

Anybody know when this slick rifle will be available in the US?

probably no time soon. as the name denotes, the rifle won't be officially adopted until 2019 so likely it'll be 2019 or 2020 before they'll be available here as all production will be going there. I do like the overall premise, however it's pretty much a colt's take on the Ruger Gunsite rifle and will likely get the obligatory Colt brand markup as anything made by colt HAS to be made better than anyone else right?

it is a slick rifle, but I don't like the mix of blued and stainless that all of these scout rifles always seem to employ, either make it all stainless or all blued, it's not that hard. I also don't like how they all seem to use a proprietary magazine which is extremely expensive(kindof negates the allure of the detachable mag feature). I guess I'll have to revisit in when they actually reach stores but honestly I'm way more hopeful that this will mean an influx of readily available and cheapish enfields back in the american markets.

Fully agree with that comment. If I'm going to have a 16" barrel, I'll use 7.62x39. No need to waste powder lighting up the sky with muzzle blast.

$10,000 per rifle? They could have saved a bundle by just buying Rugers. Heck, for that price, they could have bought Blasers!
 
I'd much rather have this Tikka.

The 20" bbl would be better than a 16" for sure ballistically, I'd even go out to 22" personally but 20" will do the job. Also, the 10 round magazine on this rifle doesn't stick out two feet from the bottom of the gun like the Ruger GSR magazines do.
 
No Canadian military procurement contract is anything but political. It's just a laminate stocked Sako Tikka T3 Compact Tactical Rifle. Nothing really special except that it'll be made by Colt Canada. You can buy one now. MSRP is $950.
 
Look at the sights, man!

This thing is clearly made to be shot with the open sights, just like the Lee-Enfield it is replacing.

That's really interesting and neat in my book. I'd imagine this would be a great gun to pair with an M1907 sling to do Appleseed-style shooting drills.
 
That price is way high. My last bolt action was a custom job on a trued 700 reciever with a Krieger match Barrel and a McMillan stock and cost me less than that.

I've also heard reports that the one the Canadians will be using will have red highlights to the stock instead of orange.

I think it's kind of dumb to change the color just for the civilian version. Maybe to thwart "stolen property" mixups in Canada? So it doesn't look like a civilian at the local gun club stole some Ranger's rifle?

I don't know, but at over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS (:eek:) for what looks to me to be a relatively straightforward rifle, I think I'll be passing on this if the price doesn't come way down. Especially since it's not going to be "just like" a real Ranger rifle since it's going to be orange.

I've been on the hunt for a modern .308 bolt gun with detachable magazines that has a GOOD set of iron sights on it. I thought this might be my gun, but there's no way I can afford it at that price.
 
Any idea why this thing features a quite colorful laminate stock in the first place? The Canadian Rangers are a military unit (maybe not quite the regular kind, but still...). I would habe figured a black polymer stock before I saw the first pic...
