C&S Safe Firing System conversion kit

I may have the name wrong, but this kit fits in the High-Power and 1911. It allows carry with the hammer down. When the safety is flipped off, the hammer pops up in the ready position. The kit now sells for $170. Has anyone used this? What's the trigger like?

The kit is an answer to a problem that doesn't exist.1911 models are designed to be carried safely cocked and locked. If you are not comfortable with this you are better off with one of the many other action types. My 1911 pistols are cocked and locked 24/7 the way John Browining intended.Good Shooting BILLG

With regard to the Ayoob review, he conspicuously didn't mention the quality of the trigger. Gunwriters are mostly honorable men and women but have an unavoidable bias. Notice that there are rarely scathing reviews. They always find kind words for the product. Gun Tests is more credible. Ayoob and others know what we want to read about: Is this a sensible product? Does it affect function, like trigger feel and reliability? Would they carry it themselves? Is the price worth it? How does it compare to others like it (P-O LDA in this case- well, not exactly like it but a similar idea)? I feel like I have to read between the lines with commercial gun magazines.

If I remember correctly in the review I read it said the c&s system used a two piece hammer. You put the hammer forward after it is cocked but a portion of the hammer assembly is still cocked to the rear. The gun just doesn't appear cocked and locked. It's basicly still single action.

From reading about both pistols, it does indeed seem similar in operation to the Para Ordnance LDA concept. The two-piece hammer mechanism being the key, I guess. On the C&S system, it looks as though the hammer should be free of bite upon recoil. The hammer-down position should be more snag resistant too. Let's not forget, it would naturally appear more PC around the non-gun sheeple. :)

On the C&S system I have shot both the BHP And the 1911. Basically you cock the firearm, push hammer forward, put saftey on,draw, fire normally. The trigger pull is crisp at 4 to 5 LBs and that is as light as you should go on a carry firearm. Bill did a 10,000 RND test and the system did not break. I have fired about 300 to 400 rounds with no problems and if you want better than double action pull with easy conversion and the added confidence of not carring cocked and locked then this is it.

Irv, good to see you around. It is nice to hae expertise like yours on the boards. You won't remember me from the SHOT Show, but I am a buddy of Laughridge's and I will stop by to say hi in New Orleans, if you are going this time.
