C&R purchase question.

Have my eye on a GB item and the seller accepts C&R but
he is also asking for a cooy of Driver License. It's been awhile since I
bought with my license but I have never been asked for DL from any business.
I'm going to pass but I would like to hear from others. Is this how it's done now?
I don't see the rationale for that request.

C&R licenses have been counterfeited and, unlike 01 FFLs, there is no list on the BATFE web site. Of course, DL's can be counterfeited also, but it is a bit harder.

He is covering his fanny; whether you go along depends on how much you want what he is selling.

I have been asked, buying over the counter from Cabela's.

He is covering his butt.

there is no list on the BATFE web site.

True, but you can call the licensing branch to make sure it is valid.

This sort of thing really bothers me because the govt. makes these licenses available so that we can transact business. But when those in the trade will not honor the licensing then it undermines everything.

I have had requests for DL on C&R purchases as well. I place tape over the ID number, resize, and send it. Never had a problem. If the person insisted on the number, I would not deal with him and contact GB support.

GB has been with us for over 10 years now. You will find many sellers with different requirements. Also there are a number of sellers that are clueless on C&R and will not accept C&R period.

The best advice I can offer is to use the "Send Seller a Message" function and ask all questions prior to bidding.

I had a similar situation at a big box store buying a shotgun. DL, permit to carry concealed, of course a 4473. To top it all off I had to fill out the 4473 on their computer and was told they couldn't help me in any way with the computer other than bring up the program. If the price hadn't been good I never would have made the purchase. They make the rules. Had to show my DL a 2nd. time to buy 00 buck at the same store at the same time at the same counter. The gun and ammo had to be securely wrapped in separate boxes before the clerk carried them out side of the store. This was in PA.:(

Yes, it's just a CYA move. Of course it's not required, but put your mind in a businessman's mind--someone sends you a piece of paper that says he's an FFL03; no photo on it, nothing to firmly identify it with anyone. Could have been obtained by anyone through any means. At least an ID attaches another layer of attempted security to the piece of paper in case the FFL undergoes an audit or the weapon ends up under investigation.

When I sell one of my C & R guns to another FFL03, I require a photo ID such as a DL along with the FFL03 copy. The dealer being mentioned is doing the same.

Thanks all for the great input. Didn't want it that bad so I
bought one of the police trade in model 10's from Buds. I have
always wanted a shooter/truck model 10 and since I already have a nice
EG Makarov I can wait for a better deal.
