C&R inspections

I am thinking about picking up a Mosin Nagant carbine. Should you have all these old guns (M-N, Enfield, Mauser) inspected by a gunsmith to see if they are safe? or is it assumed that these actions are very robust and you just have to check the bore?

myself, I would run it by a gunsmith to check headspace, but then again I'm paranoid

For the price of running it to a gunsmith, you could buy the set of gauges and have them forever.

I very carefully check muzzle when I buy C&R, some of the turk mauser I saw in the store has totally messed-up muzzle,
