C&r: Cz-52

Greetings.
Another C&R question for ya. I have been looking into C&R handguns. I like the Sistema Colt 1927s. I also like the looks of the CZ52. CIA has them for $129.
Scanning the forums, they look like a good buy. Any recommendations or warnings about the ones coming from CIA? Another C&R dealer has TT33s for about the same price. Between the two, which is better for just leisure shooting?
Thank you.

I'd get the CZ-52 over the Tokorov TT33, it's a much stronger pistol. The TT33 will not handle the hotter ammo, the CZ will pretty much handle any available ammo. I don't know anything about the CZ's at CIA, never saw one...

I have both guns. I have found them both to be exteemly accurate and great fun to shoot.
I bought mine from SOG. I got two great guns. The polish TT-33 was new...wonderful condition.
The CZ-52 had never been shot but had some holster wear.
I'd recomend a look at SOG. The TT-33 was not a C&R gun.
Plan to buy both to "justify" buying the 7.62x25 ammo by the 1,000's. S&B is my choice of ammo. I suggest you take a hard look at New Generation ammo. Lots of surplus corosive ammo out there...I stay away from it and hope to reload the S&B ammo some day.
Good luck.

I LOVE My CZ-52!!! It is VERY strong and will handle a lot of shooting with high power loads (I like the czech sub-machinegun ammo for mine). The design is very interesting and they are tack drivers. Definitely the CZ-52 over a TT-33. That said, I would also recomend getting a TT-33 as well, they are a blast too, just not as well built as the CZ. I am still awaiting my sistema 1927/1911 with great anticipation. I'm sure it will be a great shooter. Anyhoo, but the CZ. :D :D

Had both of my CZ52s out to the indoor range yesterday. They were making so much noise the guy in the lane next to me came over and asked what I was shooting. Per ususal I got the best results with the S&B followed by the South African New Generation. I'm getting rid of my milsurp (hard primers) by putting a couple of rounds in each mag. While the CZ52 is a great piece for the price you also can't beat the 1927 Sistema 45 ACP. I had that one out last weekend and even my wife was surprised how accurate it shot. Someone, I believe SOG, had some C&R TT-33s.

A C&R friend of mine bought a CZ52 as his first C&R gun. He let we shoot it when we went to the range and the recoil was a lot more then I was expecting and I just about hit myself in the face with it when I first shot it. But it is a great gun once you get the feel for it.

Aahzz...

C&R = Curio & Relic

ATF maintains a list of firearms, cartridges, etc. which are classified as Curio (obsolete, curiosities, etc.) or Relic (more than 50 years old) which qualify for "alternative" controls when compared to modern firearms. That is, with a C&R dealers license, you can order C&R firearms and have them shipped to your front door - without paying a dealer to transfer them or having to pay a background check fee.

For instance, you apply to the ATF for your C&R license and they issue it. You see a great deal on an East German Makarov, CZ-52, Mosin-Nagant, whatever. You give the dealer an ink-signed copy of your C&R license and take delivery - no transfer fees, no background checks, just a little record-keeping involved.

I've applied for mine and am awaiting issuance. One C&R purchase from an out-of-state dealer will pay for the $30 application fee.

I have a CZ-52. Right now, it's got a cracked slide. That's a little of a puzzle to me. I shoot the commercial S & B stuff, and have probably put 1500 rounds through it. I was cleanging, and thought there was a hair on the gun extending diagonally back from the ejector port. Then I brushed the hair, and it wouldn't move, and I realized that I had a crack. A new slide costs me $45, and is supposed to arrive this week.

Overall, the CZ-52 has been a fun gun to shoot. Mine shot a little to the left, but it's got a satisfying "boom" factor.
