I just acquried a H&R 1873 repo 45-70 Trap Door carbine. I was advised to use saami type 1 loads for this rifle. Has anyone used the BVAC ammo in in older 45-70 trap doors. Or is there a site where I can find type 1 designiated 45-70 ammo and reloading specs to conform to type 1 specs

Those are heavier loads than I would shoot in a Trapdoor, even a repro made of better steel.
A level 1 .45-70 is a 405 gr bullet about 1200 fps.
Plenty of data in all standard manuals like Lyman.

45-70 trapdoor loads

Thanks Guy's

I did talk to a tech at BVAC about the 45-70 ammo, very informative. He did advise me not to use their 45-70 ammo in any trapdoor new or old. Better safe than sorry. The good news was they have been working with a group of trapdoor shooters to develope a lighter load suitable for the trapdoors. I guess reloading my be the answer, but I still need to get some less expensive type 1 ammo first.:)
