Buying the right gun!!

I bought my first handgun over a year ago. I was told by more than one person including the sales guys to purchase a glock 19 from the ease of use, size, weight, and price. Well the glock 19 is a great gun.. fun to shoot, good looking gun in my opnion and accurate. But I have had one problem. For over a year I havent had any fun trying to conceal this weapon. Owb is too obvious, and Iwb sucks and is way too uncomfortable.

I wanted a smaller gun for an Owb carry, I almost bought a kahr pm9, but instead Im go glad I bought the glock 26. I was going to alter the pm9's trigger, and make some other improvements recommended by the gunsmith, but instead i bought my dream carry gun..

I picked up a brand new glock 26, and added trijicon night sights, extended mag grips for both mags, extended slide release lever, and decalgrips.com on the handle under the trigger guard and on the slide behind the factory serrated grips. I also picked up the a galco leather owb holster all for under one grand. It was awesome, the gunsmith put all that on for me and I walked out 20 mins later with the perfect conceal weapon.

Oh good lord, another fellow drunk on Glock Aid. Please make it stop. Sorry to let you in on a little secret, but Glocks do break, I have seen it with my own eyes. They are man made, and can suffer from breakage just like every other firearm out there.

when i bought my first gun i didn't know what i was doing. it was a px4 storm .40. next gun was a xd sc9. but with the right clothes you can conceal anything. lately i have been carrying my xdm owb. past six months to be exactly. nice to have a bigger gun and a smaller one tho. nice job.

Oh, I am happy for him, Glocks are great guns. It is his signature line that got me going.

it is a very inflammatory sig.

a girl used to always say this to me to push my buttons.
"Only a Sith speaks in absolutes"

There is a .50 GI conversion available for the Glock 21 (re: your signature)

Glad you got what you wanted and are happy with it. Always better to get the one you really want, you'll never be satisfied with the one that wasn't you bought instead. I have identified all my perfect guns, that have the right feel and perfect fit, now just got to get them (Socom 16, Mossy 930 SPX, 625 JM and 1911 first and best, in fact that could be my whole collection with a couple .22s, I'd be very happy and set for life with those).

thanks guys, just messing around with my signature :D.. Im not that ignorant, and I just got into this hobby for about a two years, so I am humble and open to any suggestions.

And for the guy who said im drunk on glock aid, its only cause every link on the internet, every gun thoroughly covered on every website, every gun guru, or the gunsmith at shoot straight who has been working on guns for 25 years has pointed too these weapons. After shooting one I was sold.

I personally have been drooling over the kimber 1911's, and am considering buying one of those beauties but cant figure out which one is the right one as of now.

If you had a newbie, and had to put a gun in his hand, which one would you point him too?? Prob a XD or glock?

Depends on what the newbie wanted. Having the "type" of gun you want is a lot of the fun of it, kind of like cars: we can all get one place or another in a Smart Car, but that's no fun.

If I had to put one gun in someone's hands for multi-purpose, it would be a 4" .357 revolver from a mainline manufacturer (S&W, Colt, or Ruger). You can do almost anything with those... light target loads, full bore "kick your a**" magnums... and it's simple, accurate, easy to learn and use, and will not jam under most conditions. But, again, not for everyone... if you want an auto, most of the major manufacturers are going to be just fine. More about personal preference and what you personally want... kind of like a Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge thing.

By the way, welcome glocks1926 to one of the best boards on the net. I don't have the most posts around, but been on here since 2000 (and actually earlier than that but I forgot at one point that I had a login and made a new one).

Lot of good people on here who are willing to provide their own opinions... but remember to take a grain of salt when necessary. :)

Every one??? That leave me surprised to hear there are any other choices left.

Both of my sons (as newbies) had their first handgun experience with a .22lr Ruger 22/45. Now one likes my Sig 226 and the other prefers the 1911 platform.

My XD is okay, but I don't like that I can't shoot SWC for cleaner holes in the target. And I can't shoot it nearly as well as the 1911's I own. In fact it's probably the least accurate handgun I own. It may be as reliable as my Sig (with RN bullets), but when you spend 99% of the time with it punching holes in a non-competitive environment that doesn't mean a lot.

There, fixed it for you.

I too was handed an XD for my first gun. Couldn't shoot it worth a darn, found the CZ 75 to be a much better platform...FOR ME.

The Glocks sure are hard to beat for ease of use, simple to care for, and A+ reliability. I went with the 27 after trying out maybe 10 different makes/calibers.
I eventually got the kahr pm9 for the wife and a M&P 340 for when the glock is just too big.
Thank God you don't have to stop at just one.
I am now looking for a 9mm. I like the G19 (especially after some trigger work) but I want a Da/Sa. And a metal frame(this is for the range really, so I want it to last)
Cz 75 looks nice but I feel the trigger is a little grainy
Sig 229 would be great if I had zero doubts about rust.
Bersa...anyone?

Congratulations Glock1926.

I think you made a fine choice. I'm primarily a wheelgunner, however, the first centerfire pistol I bought as a carry gun was a Glock 21. This was before the S&W Sigma and all the other Glock clones came out. It is still my #1 carry gun, though other things get carried on occasion depending on the situation.

Being the first polymer gun on the market, no other gun has been tested, tortured, and abused as much as the Glock. Dropped, frozen, put in the oven, buried in mud, sand, and even in the ocean for 6 months, and it just keeps on going. It even shoots underwater well enough that divers carry them in case of sharks. Gun ranges that rent firearms love them cuz they hardly ever have to clean them. And after thousands and thousands of rounds they still just keep on going. It has 50% fewer parts than then conventional semi-auto design, so there is less to go wrong. All the testing repeated itself when the FBI settled on it for their issued gun.

Everyone has tried to copy the Glock, but none have surpassed it.

So just grin when all these guys try to rag ya about your Glocks! They're just jealous! :D
