buying new 226, have some questions

Ok I'm going shopping this week for my new 226 in 9mm. Before I walk into the gunshop, what do I need to know?

Is there only 1 kind of 226? Are there different variations?

Are there older makes of the 226 that I should avoid?

Do some come with different parts or components (like the slide or magazine)?

What should come with the gun in the box? How many magazines, spare parts maybe?

Congratulations on a fine choice. The 226 is fantastic, not to try to answer your questions.

Only 1 226 on the market, you can get it in different finishes and different sight configuration's. Some say the older ones are better than the new, I personally have found no difference. It will come with 2 magazines. It will be perfect out of the box but you can add personal touches, to make it yours.

Enjoy, a great pistol.

best buy on the market are the "police trade-in" i've see advertised, they often come already equiped with nightsights and usually all the "bugs" worked out.

besides the options of sights and finish, sig also offers a "short trigger" which is really just the regular trigger that has been thinned slightly.

i have the older model which has worked without a bobble through 10 years as a duty weapon. i have a pair of hogue grips on mine but i hear the new factory grips are also very nice.

Ala Dan you out there?

Am I wrong here or aren't there U.S. assembled p226's out there? The reason I asked is because my p226 has the German proofmarks and my buddies does not.

There are two P226's out there. The first is the original with a stamped steel slide, which is available only in 9mm. The second is the new model with a blackened stainless steel slide like the P229 and P239 available in .357 SIG and .40 S&W. It is also available in 9mm, to law enforcement only. The new model with the stainless steel slide is heavier overall as well as a bit more top heavy.

Hey Gotgetme1,

Yes, I'm here with all my Sig family.:D There
is only one P226; but two points of
assembly. The newer P226's that are assembled
in Exeter, NH will have a stainless steel slide;
whereas the older GERMAN assembled ones
will have the stamped, sheet metal slide and
should have the German proof mark's. Something
else I have noticed is the fact that German
Sig's all come with a factory-fired test
target, and the ones from Exeter do not!!!:)

I think the one's that are the most sought after
would be those marked, "Made in W. Germany".
That can be found on my P220A and P228.

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, Life Member N.R.A.
