Buying gun show reloads

I've always cringed at the thought of buying reloads from joe blow at the gun shows, sure there are small companies that sell their reloads (my fav being georgia arms) as their sole business.

Just curious if anyone would be tempted to buy some of the elusive .223/5.56 and 9mm etc that were done by these part time individuals?

^^^^

Yeah I like GA, was referring to those guys who's brick and mortar consists of just the bench they are behind at the show

No, without a reputation and track record as an ammunition mfg I consider them no different than buying from a stranger. I reload my own and If I do shoot another's handloads it is someone I know well how they load and their attention to detail and QC.

I dont normally buy reloaded ammo at gun shows but at the last one here (birmingham) I walked by a table selling 9mm reloads packaged up nice and went on by. Later I came back and all their ammo was nearly gone so I went over and bought 50rds for I think $11-12 and brought it home and put it with the rest of my ammo. It was an outfit called orbit ammo and apparently pretty reputable around here so now maybe I will shoot it.

When I did a search the first thing that popped up was a post from january 2000 from this site. Cool.

Work a public range on the weekend a gun show is in town. You'll never buy unknown reloads again.

I had one vendor, in one weekend, whose ammo blew up four guns on the range. Then there are the undercharges, the double charges, and the ammo that just doesn't cycle well.

Georgia Arms is a solid outfit, but as has been mentioned, they actually have a brick-and-mortar business. Stay away from Joe Bob's loads, though.

I go to the same guy for my gun-show reloads - he's been selling at gunshows around here for years, and his ammo is top quality.
