My dad has one in .243 and likes it quite a bit. I've played around with it some,as well as with a friend's .270 XL7 and a few others I've shot at the range.
I've seen one failure with a Marlin X series bolt rifle: a .270 XL7 that sheared its extractor claw off. It was shooting factory loads, FWIW.
Accuracy on the XL7s and XS7s that I've shot at the range has been pretty much on par with most bolt actions: 1.3-1.8" at 100yds benched with inexpensive Remington Corelokt or Winchester Power Point ammo.
They're a good rifle for the money.
