Buying a handgun "etiquette"

Okay here is the deal. There is a gun that I was considering purchasing, and the price of it online is roughly 70 dollars cheaper than the price of the same gun at this gun shop near me. Am I going to seem like a douche bag by doing the ffl transfer for the same gun, rather than paying their prices? I am assuming no because that is what the $25 transfer fee is for basically. Thanks.

Ask the shop if they'll match the price, or even get within $25.
I tried that, and the local shop said, "That gun must be used, as I can't get it wholesale for that price". I tried.

I agree with RickB. Ask if they'll match the price, or come close. The FFL will take your $25, but they'd rather sell you the whole gun. That's my guess.

The next question for consideration is the shipping cost vs. your local sales tax. This is in case you are buying out of State and still not having to pay sales tax.

Some of us might pay a little more to help local gun shops and for not having to wait two or three days for shipping. Instant gratification~ :)

DaleA just beat me to the punch.

I've bought a couple guns from our local shop just because. Over paid a little, but it was darn easy.
BTW, my favorite shop won't do internet transfers. The one other near by charges $45.

Thanks for the replies. DaleA, shipping is free and no tax. I thought about asking them to price match. Even with tax the gun will come out to 9 bucks cheaper. I don't think this place will price match though on a 70 dollar margin. It wont hurt to ask though. Thanks again everyone.

Buds guns is where I thought about ordering from. The pistol in question is the S&W SD9VE.

Great Question !!!

Not even close and you are seeing some excellent replies. I am currently working on a similar situation. The internet seller will pay for shipping and of course, there is no taxes involved. My local FFL seller has treated me extremely fair and on one occasion, he deducted $10.00 from the agreed price without me asking. If I can do my deal at $25.00 above the internet seller, of course I'm going to deal with him. ......

By the way, when you buy from a LGS, you should not have to pay for the FFL transaction. ..... ;)

A friend of mine made a big mistake buy asking a local FFL, to bid on a firearm for him. My friend got the bid, had to pay for the shipping as well as local tax and then, a $30.00 transfer fee. ......

Be Safe !!!

My LGS said he was happy to take my $15 FFL fee, since he didn't have what I wanted and would probably make more off the FFL than his mark up, anyway.

I talked to a FFL friend and he is losing sales to online stores. Big online stores are selling firearms at a price less than he can get them to a distributor, and buyers will walk if they can get the same firearms for $5.00 less. Online competition is killing the small gunstore.

You might want to check Bud's website for their preferred FFL list to see if one is in your area. Although twenty five bucks is a pretty good deal, there might be one even less. If you are trying to save on the purchase you might as well see if you can save on tye FFL transfer. It's also easier to use a Bud's preferred FFL because they make all the arrangement for the shipping, and the dealer just calls you when it's in.

Thanks Spat. Is there a way to quote posts here? I do not see the option. That way you guy's know who I am replying to. :)

This subject is hard for me. Online prices are always cheaper than in store for me. Even factoring shipping, tax, and transfer. I just purchased a gun $100 under retail, and that's without tax added to their sticker price. I want to support my lgs but that's a lot...
