Butch's Bore Shine

I started using BBS lately when I bought my M1A. I am amazed by how I never need to scrub...I've never heard anything bad about BBS, but I want to ask this: Has anyone ever heard of BBS damaging a barrel? It's not ammonia based, and doesn't seem to be abrasive at all.

I use BBS also, but I really can't tell that it performs any better than Shooter's Choice and it doesn't seem to attack the copper as well as Sweet's. From what I've read you can leave BBS in the barrel overnight without any adverse effects, but I haven't tried it myself.

I'm a BSS convert and love the stuff. I also use Remington Bore Cleaner, but one must be sure to clean the Rem out with a solvent, after cleaning.

BBS has ammonia in it. Do not let it in the barrel more than 10 minutes. I scrub the bore using a nylon bush w/BBS for heavy fouling. Be sure to follow with a few oily patches. I recommend Kroil or BBS Gun Oil.

Here is a direct quote from BBS's web site:

"I had it extensively tested by metallurgists at the University of Montana School of Mines. Those tests revealed that absolutely no etching or pitting could be produced on either 400 series Stainless Steel or Chrome Moly Steel barrels. Barrels can be soaked with BBS for extended periods of time if a person so desires and will suffer absolutely no damage."

Personally, I never soak a barrel for any length of time, but they seem to think it's safe.

Thanks, guys...just checkin'. I haven't found that I even HAVE to scrup when I use BBS...All I have to do is run two BBS wetted patches down the bore, let it set fot 5 minutes, and run three very tight dry patches. By the third patch, it's clean as a whistle.
