Some stats to ponder:

From the L.A. Times
1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County ( L.A. County has 10.2 million people)
are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are
predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien
Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers
are Mexican nationals here illegally.
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles
are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English.
3.9 million speak Spanish.
(There are 10.2 million people in L.A. County).
(All the above from the Los Angeles Times)
Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops,
but 29% are on welfare.
Over 70% of the United States' annual population growth
(and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York )
results from immigration.
The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was,
(after subtracting taxes immigrants pay), a NET $70 BILLION/
year, [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University ]. The lifetime
fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average
adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE number.
29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.
If they can come to this country to raise Hell and demonstrate by
the thousands, WHY can't they take charge over the corruption
in their own country?
We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue.

THE U.S. VS MEXICO
On February 15, 1998, the U.S. and Mexican soccer teams met at the Los Angeles
Coliseum. The crowd was overwhelmingly pro-Mexican even though most lived
in this country. They booed during the National Anthem and U.S. flags were held
upside down. As the match progressed, supporters of the U.S. team were insulted,
pelted with projectiles, punched and spat upon. Beer and trash were thrown at
the U.S. players before and after the match. The coach of the U.S. team, Steve
Sampson said, "This was the most painful experience I have ever had in this
profession."
Did you know that immigrants from Mexico and other non-European countries
can come to this country and get preferences in jobs, education, and government
contracts. It's called affirmative action or racial privilege. The Emperor of Japan
or the President of Mexico could migrate here and immediately be eligible for
special rights unavailable for Americans of European descent.
Corporate America has signed on to the idea that minorities and third world
immigrants should get special, privileged status. Some examples are Exxon,
Texaco, Merrill Lynch, Boeing, Paine Weber, Starbucks and many more.
DID YOU KNOW?
Did you know .. that Mexico regularly intercedes on the side
of the defense in criminal cases involving Mexican nationals?
Did you know .. that Mexico has NEVER extradited a Mexican
national accused of murder in the U.S. in spite of agreements to do so?
According to the L.A. Times, Orange County , California is home to 275
gangs with 17,000 members, 98% of which are Mexican and Asian.
How's your county doing?
According to a New York Times article dated May 19, 1994, 20 years after
the great influx of legal immigrants from Southeast Asia, 30% are still on
welfare compared to 8% of households nationwide. A Wall Street Journal
editorial dated December 5, 1994 quotes law enforcement officials as stat-
ing that Asian mobsters are the "greatest criminal challenge the country
faces." Not bad for a group that is still under 5% of the population.
Is education important to you? Here are the words of a teacher who spent over 20 years in the Los Angeles School system. "Imagine teachers in classes
containing 30-40 students of widely varying attention spans and motivation,
many of whom aren't fluent in English. Educators seek learning materials
likely to reach the majority of students and that means fewer words and
math problems and more pictures and multicultural references."
WHEN I WAS YOUNG
I remember hearing about the immigrants that came through Ellis Island .
They wanted to learn English. They wanted to breathe free. They wanted
to become Americans. Now, far too many immigrants come here with de-
mands. They demand to be taught in their own language. They demand spe-
cial privileges ... affirmative action. They demand ethnic studies that glorify
their culture.
NOW .
WHY CAN'T WE SEND THEM HOME?!

When are we going to wake up and ACT on this appalling situation?

Oh this is too easy.

Maybe it's a joke? A bad one. I'll just skip everything and say,

maybe you should learn how to copy and paste better.

Maybe we should build a wall along our southern border just like the Soviet Union did , and man it with our military. WE could do that if our soldiers were not strungout all around the world, but we would'nt want to worry about something like that ( A REAL PROBLEM) Would we ???
And if our border patrol agents happen to shoot one of these drug dealing, law breaking illegal aliens, then they are the ones that get punished and end up in prison !!!
The southern border of our country is a really serious matter for America and it needs to be a much more front and center issue.......

maybe you should learn how to copy and paste better
That's your only reponce to the above info!
Enlighten us all and tell us exactly what part of that post is not correct.
And exactly how was that copied and pasted incorrectly?

Unlike immigrants of the past this new illegal seems to want to bring their country here instead of becoming Americans. Take advantage of Americas kind heartedness or ignorance, which ever your view seems to be.
It is good that so many think so much of our freedom and wealth that they want to live here to bad it isn't better under control. It would be nice to have the opportunity to pick and chose who gets to live here so we can have a productive citizenry and not allow the Outlaw types.

UPDATED: Don Hosek of LA Stories directs me to the ever useful Snopes.com which has looked into the issue and come to a similar conclusion as I did: there is no verifiable source of the statistics in most cases, and in others they are taken completely out of context or just made up. If any readers can provide any more info it would be appreciated...
UPDATE #2: Matt Welch of the L.A. Times says this is a hoax, and that the paper will be reporting on it...
This information is all completely bogus.

Not only is it bogus but it is laughably so. You would have to be really biases and intelectually lazy to fall for something like this.

Anyone that would repeat this as fact either has an agenda or is really gullible. Either way they should be ashamed of themselves.

so far I've just found these repeated and recited on a number of right wing "news" sites and anti-illegal-immigrant blogs, adding to my skepticism.
These are quotes I have been able to find from people and institutions actually looking into the numbers within 30 seconds of reading this rediculous post.

Where is a link to the article this info comes from?

All territory within 200m of the borders should be a free-fire zone and strewn with bouncing Bettys. Illegal aliens should be denied bail until trial and chained together while they clean up the messes they made on the way in. They should be denied the right to sue for anything real or imagined, since they don't have the right to be here in the first place. If Presidente Calderon doesn't like it then me cago en su madre. (Para Espanol, marque dos)

Lets back up those stats with some sources. Or is the only source your buddy who forwarded the email?

Do us all a favor and take TFL off of your email forward list.

If you want to discuss the topic of illegal immigration and the impact it has on our nation, put in a little effort, do your own research, post your findings for discussion, and I'm sure we'd all be happy to discuss and evaluate what you've discovered.

Pumping your fist in the air with indignation over information gleaned from spam email… I thought we expected more from one another than that… :(

And exactly how was that copied and pasted incorrectly?

I'm saying you threw away your credibility by posting something that was obviously copy-pasted from an email.

Typical typed text continues until it reaches the right edge of its text box. Then it FLOWS into the next line. The typical email makes line breaks at every 80-85 characters, to increase readability. Which is pretty much the width of your post.

Oh, and the LA Times would be THE LAST paper to rip on illegal aliens. Hell, they don't even refer to them as such. They're called "undocumented workers."

I'm sure we're all impressed with your ability to discern posts gleaned from e-mails.
I didn't know forwarding such things was frowned upon.
And if you consider wanting America free from, at the least, unwanted freeloaders, an agenda, then you bet I've got one.
I didn't read anything in that e-mail that seemed out of the realm of possibility considering the negative effects illegal immigration is having on various segments of our society.
Did I research it?
No.
But I'd like to see evidence to the contrary.
Someone, please direct me to any credible source that can relate to me all of the POSITIVE effects of ILLEGAL immigration.
I'd really love to read it!
If anyone can convince me that unbridled ILLEGAL immigration is good for this country, I'll become one of it's biggest advocates.
Perhaps the British, French and Germans would like to hear how good it is also, considering how much trouble they are now having because of it.
So, let's hear it.
And Trip, you probably missed my post of 2/25 "I'm so sick of this illegal alien situation".
Did you respond then?

I agree 100% with you man, I can not get over everyone just always blowing off all the problems with immigration we have. More people need to feel much stronger about this topic.

Someone, please direct me to any credible source that can relate to me all of the POSITIVE effects of ILLEGAL immigration.

This is what's called a "straw man argument." I never claimed any position on illegal immigration, good or bad. I'm saying that your source is wrong and lacks credibility.

You didn't start with "I think illegal immigration is a bigger problem than we are led to to believe, and here is why..." Nope. You just forwarded an email.

I never claimed any position on illegal immigration, good or bad. I'm saying that your source is wrong and lacks credibility.

Thats thrice. Hows about coming up with some to prove them wrong.
It kinda interests me and I would like some truth one way or ta other.

This is what's called a "straw man argument."

I don't much care what kind of argument you want to call it
I never claimed any position on illegal immigration, good or bad.
I never said you did.
What makes you think I'm directing this at you??
I'm saying that your source is wrong and lacks credibility.
And your proof of this is what?
You didn't start with "I think illegal immigration is a bigger problem than we are led to to believe, and here is why..."
Sorry you didn't like the way I opened my post.
You can pretty well infer my stand on the issue just by the fact that I posted it in the first place.
Neither you, nor anyone else, has yet to tell me the "positives" of illegal immigration.
Juan Carlos, are you there????

First, just to define terms, there is no such legal status as illegal immigrant. You cannot go to federal court and fight any case based on that status. Nor is there any INS or ICE document or US statute that has the term illegal immigrant. Illegal Alien is the correct legal term. Illegal immigrant is an invention of the PC press. Can't be illegal and a immigrant at the same time.

My first hand experience says that most illegal Aliens do not pay taxes to support their use & abuse of our welfare system. I lived in El Paso and in California and have witnessed first hand this large scale abuse. Anytime you have a large scale influx of illegals you have an increase in property taxes to support their free use of the local social system. This free use means going to the hospital free of charge and even sending their kids to school completely free. When I would go to work each morning (on the Mexico side) of El Paso there would be cars lined up from Juarez letting their kids off to go to school. The El Paso school district has a rule that you cannot ask about citizenship. So, we the property owners had to pay the extra tax burden. People I talk to are always surprised to find that some of the highest property taxes in this country are in El Paso, not the rich areas of California.

For years we have been sold a bill of goods that low cost illegal labor provides a boost to the economy and gives us lower cost goods. The fact is the hidden cost of social services way out weights these so called benefits.

The reason this is now (more than ever) an issue is that for years the main areas that were affected by high cost of illegal labor was the south west. Now communities across the country are learning the real truth.

BTW, yes I had to pay for a Mexican legal work visa to work in Mexico.

Neither you, nor anyone else, has yet to tell me the "positives" of illegal immigration.

Good point. I am also waiting to hear those positives.

Oh, and the LA Times would be THE LAST paper to rip on illegal aliens. Hell, they don't even refer to them as such. They're called "undocumented workers."

Man, ain't that the truth.
Illegal Aliens are a major problem in the US, especially in the south-west. But if you are going to post stats, please post a link to back them up.
