Bushmaster M17S Fun to shoot at 25 yards?

My son and I have had a lot of fun shooting pistols at a local indoor range. The advantage of the range is that it's about 5 minutes away. The Disadvantage is that it's a 25 yard range.

I will sell some stock options this month, and have a little cash to spend on a weapon. I have been thinking of getting a pistol, but the idea of a Bushmaster M17S has crossed my mind.

I see that the M17S "iron sights" are called "25-metre open iron sights". They look like they have a sight radious maybe not much bigger than some of the pistols we shot. I understand that's a real disadvantage for people who want to shoot at a distance.

But I wonder if this might not be a fun gun for our purposes, target shooting at 25 yard range, with its primitive open sights. Later, if we both really like it, I could add a scope of some kind, and join one of the outdoor ranges that are a little bit farther away.

This may be heresy, but at first, I'd be using it more or less like a big pistol- 25 yard range with a big whoomp. I'm still pretty new to shooting, and I like the sound of a bigger round going off. The pistol I like to shoot most is a .357 SIG, partly because of the sound.

So, is this a totally wacky idea? I have little/no intereste in hunting, self defense, shooting for me is something fun to do with my son.

Thanks,

Munir

Most (if not all) indoor pistol ranges would have an absolute fit if you shot a centerfire rifle cartridge. OTOH, I'm sure it'd be a blast on an appropriate range.

The range says:

"The Range has a shooting depth of 75 feet and eight shooting lanes which can accommodate pistol, rifle, or shotgun up to 460 nitro."

They also rent a Bushmaster AR15 (I don't know the model number) in .223. I think I've seen someone shooting a .308 or something bigger than a .233 there.

So you think it would be a blast? I'm thinking on it.
