Bushmaster Bullpup?

In my Bushmaster catalog, I saw a listing for a Bullpup.

What are the pros and cons of a Bullpup vs. a regular AR-15 type rifle?

P.S. I'm a lefty...is that a factor with the Bullpup?

Thanks for your opinions.

Well...

In general, being left-handed would have an influence on bullpup selection, since if you got one with the ejection port on the standard (right) side of the receiver, you would be literally eating the brass.

I assume they make right and left handed variants, but in truth, I have no idea.

The advantage of bullpup configurations in general is that you can either get a longer barrel length while maintaining the same overall length, or (more commonly) get a shorter overall length while keeping a decent barrel length. As to AR bullpups, I can't help yah.

There's an article on the Bushmaster Bullpup in the May issue of Guns & Weaons for Law Enforcement. I see no mention of a lefty version in the Bushmaster catalog, though, so I'd guess you can pretty much forget it.

I think I might have read that article ...

Don't own one, and have never fired one, but ... that article (or, another recent one) indicated it was a pretty good little rifle, but the sights sucked. 'Course, now I'm quoting from a gun rag, so take this with a lot of 'salt'.

Does seem like a pretty good trunk gun though.

One more issue about a bullpup...

I never shot a Bushy bullpup before, so this might not apply. Since the chamber is much closer to your ear compare to a regular rifle, it will be a lot louder when shotting one. I shot a AUG once and that thing is very loud for a 223.

IMHO, ergonomics of the bullpup design are not as good as the standard AR. For example, doing a speed reload (i.e., maintaining your cheek weld and looking downrange at the goblin) is considerably harder as you have to reach underneath the rifle with your
hand to get to the magazine well.
