Bushmaster Bullpup M17s

Well, I picked up one of these recently and it's been problematic in both reliability and support from the company. I understand they don't make these anymore but when the rifle has a known issue, I'd think they'd want to fix it. So, it double fired on me a few times and had feeding issues. I contact Bushmaster and they tell me that I'm out of luck, find a local gunsmith. I called CS and the rep tells me, oh it's the trigger bar, we are aware of the problems and are active in a search for a new manufacturer to make a better one for us. They assure me that it will get fixed one day and to call back every six months to see if they are in. So, I accept that. On doing internet research it seems that more likely than not, these models have double firing or full auto issues. I walk into my local gun shop and there sits an M17s in the cabinet. Guess what? It recently had a double fire issue and the guy at the store says Bushmaster fixed it for them. Hmmmnnnn... I call Bushmaster and they deny they fixed it saying they haven't worked on them in a few years. Another guy on this site is saying Bushmaster offered him an AR to resolve the similar issue with his M17s. So I write Bushmaster to seek any further information or resolution. No response. I call back. This time, the rep says they are not looking for M17s fixes and that they are not sure what the other rep was talking about. Somebody is telling a lie. They tell me I'm essentially out luck. When I ask for a supervisor they aren't going to let me talk to them. After some negotiating the rep tells me to send it in for a looksy. No promise that they can fix it, but a look to see if they can do anything with it. I go back to my local gun store and he shows me the invoice where Bushmaster did indeed fix his rifle. Very frustrating. I've been a Bushmaster customer and currently have one of their AR's. It's not a good feeling needing a repair that they are the only ones that can fix, it's a known issue with their design, and I'm getting the run around. I'm hoping they present a solution and make me more comfortable about being a customer again in the future. The Bullpup was shipped out today on my dime. We'll see what happens.

Mine has been trouble free since new,I rarely shoot it anymore . It sounds like someone monkeyed with the trigger to make it less heavy ,these have a terrible trigger pull .

hm, bushaster like marlin got closed and moved. i believe same outfit that runs remington. i had one years ago. it worked best with orlite plastic canadian mags...however it would not function at any angle and would double feed just to **** a guy off, lol. bobn

as for the double firing issue, make sure your rear take down pin is fully seated... it is a known issue with these rifles that a partially ejected pin can cause them to roll into fully auto fire.... also, hinge the upper and lower apart, and check to make sure that both sides of the trigger return spring are under the posts. As for feeding issues, my m17s will shoot ONLY PMC or isreali surplus with absolutely no problems, have a friend who picked one up that will only shoot remington green box with no feed issues. wolf steel case wont feed through either of ours AT ALL. not enough gas in the system, short strokes and doesnt feed another round into the chamber. play around with a couple different brands of ammo and make sure to either get the anti-tilt follower kits for your gi mags, or pick up some pmags and that should help a bit also.

Thanks for the advice. The pins are not the problems. I don't think the springs are the issue either. I looked over the weapon really good before sending it in and did not see anything out of place. Everything looked factory. It's been 12 days and I have heard nothing from Bushmaster. I hope they fix it, otherwise it's a waste of space in the safe.

It's been exactly one month since I shipped out today and I haven't heard a peep out of Bushmaster. Do they usually take this long to service a weapon? Maybe due to the fact that they don't make these any longer? I don't really mind the wait as long as it's being fixed.

hmm, bushmaster isnt bushmaster anymore and they sure wouldnt have any reason to service that model. as i understand it bushmaster got move out of their facility just like marlin did...
....i sure hope you get some satisfaction but it might be part of lifes ups and downs...bobn

I wrote Bushmaster service a few days ago and they haven't responded. Go figure. I'm starting to get a bad taste in my mouth about this whole thing. It would be nice to atleast get a response.

So, after nearly two months I have no idea if my rifle has been fixed. They have provided me with zero information in that regards. Apparently I missed UPS today since I have a sticker on my door from them. Best of all, Bushmaster returned my rifle C.O.D. for $41 to be paid on delivery!!! If they think I'll be buying another Bushmaster anytime soon they are absolutely wrong!
