came across a bushmaster with 24 " heavy barrel for a price of 777.00
any comments on price and are bushmasters a quality ar15?

Bushmasters are well-made and generally accurate. My match-target version shoots 1/2 MOA. The stock trigger sucks.

If the one you've found is NIB, that seems to be in the neighborhood of the going rate.

24" barrel

Slab J, if it's not a non chrome lined barrel, I would steer clear..........
You just have an extra 4"'s of barrel you do not need.
A .223, uses all the powder up in a 20" tube........so anything more is really a waste.
And if it's a plinker, and not a match rifle, it will be very ungainly in carry, and use.
Also, you can get the regular rifles at or below that price........
look around.
FWIW.........

Slab,
Why don't you and Bad Dad Brad get toghether and buy the set for Dissapators listed below in the post about " Roch River Arms PWA AR-15" for $600 each you can't go wrong. Heavy barrel and chrome lined.

Just a thought. all mine are 16 inch barrels.

Unless this is a DCM model, which I doubt, considering the asking price, then you have a Bushy with a 24" chrome-lined barrel and chamber. I personally wouldn't want it, but if you want to shoot varmints, it might be o.k. The factory trigger stinks; I use the JP trigger/hammer combo, but there are several other manufacturers that also offer great aftermarket triggers.

Tshoes, my 17 pound AR15 monstrosity just got it's feelings hurt by your comments!

Yeah, it's a heavy turd to wheel around through the bush but it's certainly a pleasure to shoot. I do think I gain a bit of velocity from the 24 inch barrel as opposed to using a 20 inch barrel, most likely because I handload for it and I can taylor a load to burn for the length of the barrel. Gains with the 223Rem are likely marginal for each additional inch or two of barrel but I'll takes whatevers I can gets.

It's a riot getting into a rested prone position while on 20x and taking shots without fear of the crosshairs moving off position thanks to being absolutely recoiless, I get the slightest amount of "buffer slap" that causes the crosshairs to bounce off target by about 1/4 inch at 100 yards but recovery is very quick.

It's a beast, sometimes that's a good thing and sometimes that's a bad thing.

Well, gotta go comfort the lightning rod. Let it know that somebody still loves it.

slab jockey, the Bushmaster AR15s(even Vmatches) come from the factory with chrome lined barrels with a phosphated finish on the exterior. If this barrel isn't an Hbar profile, isn't phosphated, and you don't think it's got a chrome lined bore then it's not a factory Bushmaster barrel and likely not a Bushmaster factory complete rifle, don't want to use the "parts gun" word but I'd very carefully check the rifle over.

777 does seem quite a bit high, especially if it's a used and factory original Bushmaster.

Uglygun  You need to put that AR on a Diet :( 17 pounds  how many gun bares do you have to trade off carring it until you want to take a shot.
I was thinking my VMatch had put on wieght when I added the ATN scope with heavy ARMS #5 riser and ARM Rings.

You have got a monster

Wait until I get my AR10 configured how I want it with a 243Winchester 24-26 inch barreled upper. It's gonna be in the same configuration as my custom AR15 for the most part and the AR10 ain't gonna be very light either.

My custom AR15 got heavy real quick when you consider I've used things on it like a stainless steel lower, adjustable buttplate, big mondo Leupold Long Range 6.5-20, Harris 25 model swivel bipod, and then it's 24 inch bull barrel. There isn't any lead in the rifle though that's weighing it down, it does balance very naturally though thanks to the weight of the buttplate and the stainless lower.

I don't complain too much when using it though, over 2-3 years I've gotten used to it. I don't carry it with a sling either, at 48 inches long it's a little too akward to move around with while slung as opposed to just keeping it in hand and ready for a shot.

Still though, it doesn't mean that I don't want a lighter weight precision AR. My next AR15 upper will likely be a lighter weight 16 inch match barreled freefloated job and my goal for the rifle's total weight while loaded with scope will be around 9-10 pounds, the rifle should still be capable of squirrel hits out to 250 yards and that would be just fine for a "walking gun" AR15. Reserve the monstrosity for 250 yards and beyond when I don't feel much like walking around and then use the lighter weight gun while out walking the fence lines.

Two BM's, Dissapator's

Karsten, I e mailed the dude, told him I would take em' BOTH......he will/would NOT give me a # to call him..with a Hotmail addy, and not willing to talk.....bad JUJU.
