I didn't know the Border Patrol was foucused on guns.

Q What are the odds for a guest worker provision?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, that's got to be an integral part of a comprehensive plan. When you're talking comprehensive immigration reform, one part of it is a guest worker program, where people can come on a temporary basis to do jobs Americans are not doing. I've always felt like that would be an important aspect of securing the border. In other words, if somebody is not trying to sneak in in the first place, it makes -- decreases the work load on our Border Patrol, and lets the Border Patrol focused on drugs and guns and terrorists. But that's a -- I appreciate you bringing that up. I should have remembered it.

It's at the end of his press conference he gave yesterday.

I would think that the illegal importation of drugs and guns as well as terrorists were all high on a border patrol agents list.

Really? I recall reading we're often told our lax gun laws permit the easy export of guns to our neighbors to the north and south. Does the border patrol look for thing going out?

Does the border patrol look for thing going out?
Not their job; Not their problem. That's National History 101. Not Canada's problem to check who comes into the US; just to check who comes into Canada.

Welcome to the History of Civilization.

Question:

An illegal immigrant comes over with a couple guns with happy-switches. Do they get deported or a decade to learn english courtesy of club fed?

Does the border patrol look for thing going out?

Only if they're not supposed to by our laws. Otherwise, the responsibility falls on the other side.

decreases the work load on our Border Patrol, and lets the Border Patrol focused on drugs and guns and terrorists.

Which should always be a high priority. Remember, it's the arms that enter our country illegally and/or get into the hands of criminals that give law abiding gun owners a bad rap.

As long as gov't is talking about guns in this context, I'm fine with it. If only the anti's would focus their energy in such a constructive manner:mad:

It's been years since I crossed the Mexican border but back then you were never stopped into Mexico.
I read that a large portion of guns stolen here go to Mexico. No idea if that is so or not, but sounds reasonable.

That is very discouraging to hear the president say these words.

Consider the context. You won't find anyone advocating illegal arms trafficking. Not even on these boards.

He has a moral and legal obligation to prevent weapons from crossing the borders unlawfully. We're not talking importation here.
