Mike Erwin, try driving along Rt. 7 out past the intersection with I-267 sometime. There's Bush lawn signs all over the median strip despite that being (I believe) government property. I have no idea who puts them up (the developers?) or who allows them to stay (the state police? county government?) but when someone put up a Nader sign it disappeared after one day. There's one Buchanon sign that seems to have stayed for awile.
Of course, I suspect the vast majority of the people who live out there support Bush. (I have a friend who lives and works in Sterling. That's the only reason I ever go to suburban h*ll.)
Around Baltimore (a heavily Democratic city) I've noticed about half Bush and half Gore stickers. The number of Nader stickers has been growing but isn't that large. Overall, the city's been totally dead this election season. Most neighborhoods have no lawn signs at all (including historically activist ones like Charles Village). I don't know a single person who is excited about the prospect of a Gore presidency. Of course, I also don't know anyone who is _excited_ about a Bush presidency but they do seem a little more committed to the campaign.
If you based your assumptions on stickers around my college you'd think Nader was sweeping the race. It's amazing what a difference small group of people passing out stickers makes. Too bad for Gore and Bush nobody on the campus actually _believes in_ either of them.
(For the record, however, I'd guess that the school is going to go about 50% Gore, 40% Bush, and 10% Nader (that's only because of the active Nader campaign). Of course, only about 10% of the stupid student body will bother to vote so....)
I've talked to people who are supporting Browne but I've never seen a sign or sticker for him. I wish they would get their act together so then we'd have someone intelligent to debate against instead of the followers of the two-headed corporate beast.
