What is your favorite target load for a .45 Colt, 200 gr. LSWC, using Bullseye powder? I'll be shooting it out of a Uberti Colt SAA clone with 7 1/2 inch barrel. Thanks.
Try 5.5 grains to start. Should be in the 750 fps area for a 5.5 inch barrel. 750 is an old standby target velocity. You can work up to Alliant's limit of 7.5 grains, but that will be moving the bullet closer to 950-1000 fps.
I have used Nick's load for 45 colt and its pretty nice, mild and shoots fairly accurately. However, I do prefer bulkier and slower powders in the large cases like 45 colt. Unique, 231, and trail boss are nice powders to use.
keep a close eye on every charge, its very easy to get a double charge of bullseye in a 45 colt case, which would yield explosive results....
The risk of double charge is why I won't use anything faster than Unique in the .45 Colt.
8gr Unique was a very accurate load with the 200gr swc, back when I used to shoot them. NOT a light target load, velocity should be in mid 800s, depending on barrel length.
Thanks for the input guys. I bought my first .45 Colt recently and only have a small amount of Bullseye on hand; not enough to do much experimenting with. The LGS tells me that Alliant powders are getting hard to come by so I may be quickly moving on to one of the other powders.
