Bullseye Powder & 9 X 19

Greetings.

I am using some relatively new (couple years old) Bullseye powder for a 9mm load. Usually I like HP-38 but I can't find any, and I have some Bullseye, so I'm going to use it. Load data in my Lyman's Handbook (49th ed.) says that for a 115 grain jacketed hollow point, max load is 4.8 grains of powder.

I have loaded up 30 rounds, and it seems that at 4.3 grains, the cases are quite full--to the point that I imagine the base of the bullet is touching the powder. I would think that with 4.8 grains, it may even be slightly compressing the powder.

Has anyone used Bullseye for 9mm loads, and if so, does the powder normally seem to fill up the case to around 3/4 full with 4.3 grains?

Thanks in advance.

You can compare the volume density rates here

and see that BE takes up more space per grain than HP38. I use BE and Power Pistol for 9mm and 40SW. They are great powders for those cartridges. Use the Alliant load data here http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/default.aspx
download the 2015 booklet

and you can find older ones here

I've used Bullseye in the distant past with good results and it does fill the case of the 9mm a goodly amount. 45ACP is much different, lots of room left. Switched to 700-X because it's notably cleaner burning.

1 use 4.1 grains bulleye with 115grn hp
I use 4.3 grains bullseye with 115grn cast.
my oal is around 1.15
I also use unique at higher but that powder does fill the case about 3/4 or better.

Just for reference . . .

I just charged the 9mm case on the left with 4.3grns of Bullseye, and the one on the right with 4.8gns. They were both Remington (R-P) cases.

Hope that helps.

BTW, Bullseye in 9mm under a 115gn jacketed or plated bullet is an excellent combination.
