bullet proof for cheap

is there any vests out there that will stop a shot gun slug at close range? like within 6 feet? and if so how much would they cost, and is it possible to make my own. any comments are welcome. if you think im crazy your not the only one.

id wager youd suffer some serious internal injuries, seperated sternum and busted ribs, even if the slug didnt go through. So I really doubt youd be in any shape to double fist your 2 desert eagles to get out of the mess ;)

This sounds like a SShootemindahead question

Why?

idk y, i was just curious. whats the most powerful gun a standard vest can stop without causing serious injury to the wearer? if a shot gun is too powerful

While in the Army they showed us a video of someone from Second Chance wearing one of their vests, while another gentleman with a FAL in .308 shoot him from almost muzzle contact away.Took a step back but that was about it,had a red mark(probably soon to turn purple)about the size of a tea cup.I can only guess that he had two trauma plates in front.

i saw a buddy of mines vest after he was shot in the chest at about one foot with a load of bird shot. the vest stopped every thing but it lost it's new look. he did not have any broken bones but got a lot of bruising out of the deal.

Call 1 800 USA Army,

Tell them your calling about a 19 Kilo job. (M1A1/M1A2 Tanker)

This is about as bullet proof as it gets. :p

Even if you stop the slug you are still absorbing the energy and will probably go down. That's a LOT of energy.

I know from experience that our vests (Point Blank IIIA) will stop the following:

5 - 5.56x45mm
1- 12ga slug
2- 12ga 00Buck
10- .40S&W 180gr

We had a vest that was past its expiration date, so we took it to the range for a bit of "testing". Vest was hung on a rail at the end of the range, not placed over a semi-solid object. All shots were fired at a distance of 5 feet. Shots were fired, in that order, into a single vest, no trauma plates.

Now, all that being said, that's a heckuva lot of kinetic energy. Your insides would likely be turned to jelly. Regardless, I would not want to be shot with anything, vest or not.

Plates were developed to spread the blow from higher power rounds across a large enough area to avoid blunt force trauma.

Enough layers of Kevlar would stop just about anything.

The blunt force trauma that results is likely to stop the person.

Ceramic plates are designed to stop large caliber rifle rounds (7.62x54r, .3006, .308). I've seen videos of Soldiers/Marines shot by snipers and the Soldiers were mildy wounded. They should handle a 12 gauge slug.

thganks guys, i know you probly think im a nutjob. i just like to know my options incase the world turns into a police state, or its bak to looting and mob mentality. so uh how much is a decent vest? can i get one for around 300?

You missed a zero there.....

$3000.00 would be reasonable.

Actually, it depends on the level of the vest.... anywhere from $400 to $3000+

eBay would probably be your best bet. Frankly, as a civilian you're wasting your money, but it's your money.
