Bullet help-reply please

hi i was wondering if u guys with all ur "expertise" could tell me all the basic differences of bullets-fmj-hp-etc- and what thier better for-i am getting a mauser 8mm and another person i talked to said get soft points for deer and fmj for coyote-thanks ..Joseph

FMJ = Full Metal Jacket
JSP = Jacketed Soft Point
JHP = Jacketed Hollow Point
LRN = Lead Round Nose

For hunting, a JSP is probably best. For self defense against two legged creatures, a JHP is probably best. FMJ is best for penetration. Great when armor is involved.

The FMJ ammo is fine for casual target shooting at a relatively low cost, but I would never use it for hunting. Even a coyote deserves a clean kill, and the FMJ--although likely fatal--won't reliably do it "instanter".

The soft nose or hollow point bullets expand, and tear up more meat, making for more rapid exsanguination. (Dennis, that's a four-bit word meaning "bleeds like crazy!")
