bullet casing powder measure .50 Hawken style?

Hello, cloud8a. The Dixie Gun-Works catalog has a list of various ctg. case powder measurements in the back..everything from .22 l.r. up to..?
I picked up some brass on the range and measured how much Goex FFFg they held when used as a powder measure.
Here's my list.
.45-70 82.1 grains.
.30-.06 70.7 grains
7.62 x 57R (Mosin Nagant) 64.6
.30-30 45.2
.44 Mag 38.9
7.62 x 39 (AK47) 35.3
.223 31.0
.357 Mag 26.1
If you want 90 grains, you could use a .30-30 case twice.
A .30-.06 case should throw a fairly decent target load for patched round ball in .50 cal.

You are a lot more likely to find a .375 H&H or a .300 Win mag case which should meter around 90 to 100 grains according to their capacities in grains of H20.
Here is a list of cases of every kind & the amount of water they will hold. Water is very, very close to Black powder in volume & density so it's a pretty good indication of capacity by volume for B/P.
I have a .50 Hawken carbine ( 24" 1:48 twist BBL) & it likes a 55gr charge with a PRB for plinking & a 95 Gr load for maximum power.

I don't understand wanting to mix an old traditional style with modern stuff.
Just go to the hardware store and buy some copper tubing. Squish one end in the vice, drill a hole for a string in the squished part, add powder amount you want, note how far up the tube it comes and cut.
With a little use it will get appropriately grungy and look old and will serve you for many years.

Excellent! I will print these measurements out and work with them. I know I could go down to Cabela's any day of the week and purchase a brass powder measure (I actually have a plastic T measure). But I don't get to shoot much these days and when I do there are free measures laying all over my local range. I'm not in any big hurry or looking for what I already know exists. I just like discovering different things and ways. Today its the used bullet casing for a powder measure. Tomorrow it might be a drilled stick for one. Between now and then I am gonna grill some chicken thighs. Thanks guys for the info.
