Bulk 22LR Storage Options

how about 35mm film cans, asprin and pill bottles..
50/100 rd plastic containers it comes in, like mini mags, etc..
zip lock bags, 2 oz empty baby bottles,

i'm used to going to the range and loading ammo i plan to shoot in a 30 cal can..

I generally use more than a handful then though..

its been a while since i squirrel hunted, and then it was a issue to take a paper box of shells and have them roll around in a vest pocket..

I used a couple of film cans on those days because it was handy..

I can get 4400 rounds lose packed in a .30 cal ammo can (Federal 550 packs)...and I have six of these sitting at home for long-term storage.

If you want to use tubes, just go to lowes or home depot and get some pvc pipe in the diameter you want, glue a cap on one end and a threaded cap on the other

How long of storage? I found a 500 count brick of Federal 510 .22lr ammo on a self in my closet. Totally forgot they were there. Had to be 15+ years old. No special treatment, still sitting there in the original cardboard box. They sat so long the bottom of the box was slightly stuck to the shelf. Shot them back in October. Only two duds, which is actually good as compared to other cheap ammo I have shot. I would think as long as they didn’t get soaking wet, the original packaging should be good for 20-30 years. At 52 years old, I don’t plan on living longer then that. :o

I buy laundry additive at the Dollar Tree for--you guessed it--one buck a jar. The jar is made of LDPE and has a screw on lid, air and moisture resistant. I repurpose these jars when empty for bulk .22. They have a bit of a detergent smell but I usually let them sit with the lids off in a south facing window for a few days to eliminate the dryer sheet smell.

X2 on ammo cans. They really are air tight. I keep my tow chain in one in the back of suv, when it gets cold it's really hard to open because of the vacuum created by the contracting air. I plan on storing mine thus with O2 absorbers for the long term stuff.

Mini-mag containers work great for me. Stick 'em in a 50 cal ammo can for longterm storage. My problem is that I shoot so many 22s, they never last long term.

I have a few of the M134 ammo cans that are huge. I have most of my 223 and .22lr ammo in those cans in the back of my closet. I think as long as they dont get too hot or too cold they will be fine.

Aspirin or prescription bottle for a short plinking session, small plastic relish jar for a couple hours of shooting.

Use an old Sucrets or Altoids tin. It should hold up to 80+ rounds, is metal (=durable), and has a lid that snaps shut.

A 5 inch tall Gatorade canister will hold one bulk box of .22 LR.
The screw off lid can be easily labeled with a permanent marker
and with the near full size opening the rounds can be taken straight
from the canister. Another plus is they are stackable.

Rock on,
