I used to look it up at larue-targets.com , but hasn't been there for at least a week. Tried a few mega-searches and still can't find it. Does anyone have a link to the articles that were published in Shooting Times about Building a 1911? Does anyone know if the book has much more information than the series that Larue Targets had posted at their site?

Layne Simpson's Shooting Times articles on building a 1911 were published after his book The Custom Government Model was written. The book is nice but is aimed more at educating the reader as to the different custom options offered by 1911-'smiths. It is also a bit behind the technology curve for current choices in IPSC Open and Limited Division competition.

Thanks for the info guys.

Bulldawg, I appreciate the link. You both have great sites to say the least. I didn't find a site that gave the articles that I wanted, however the various links contain a wealth of information. I put them on file for future reference.

Daniel,

I used to think that the book was more of a "how to" book, like his articles. I'm trying to find detailed articles on things like:
1. Fitting new oversized grip frame/slide.
2. Fitting oversized mg barrel and compensator.
3. etc....
Jerry Kunhausen's 2vol. book on the 1911 is good for most things, but lacks in a couple areas that I thought Layne Simpson might cover.
