Building my own holster.

After looking all over the place for one I decided that I am going to make an IWB light bearing concealment holster for my sig and TLR-2.

I have all of the necessary tools on hand but a rivit gun so im pretty set.

I would like to know a few things from someone who has done it.

What thickness should I order?

Where should I order from?

What is a good price for a sheet of kydex?

Thanks guys. I will post pics and a process when I get to it.

Question: are you going to clone the Crossbreed Supertuck? I'd recommend it! If so you're going to need a piece of leather - look for a local Tandy Leather outlet if possible. You can usually find something decent in the scrap pile for cheap :).

IF you go that route, .080", .090" or .093" would probably be best.

For the belt connections you really want .125"...in my experience, .090 can break.

With the "Supertuck" types, you actually don't need rivets. You can use a dremel tool to do a series of small holes in both the kydex and leather and stitch the two together. You'll want some heavy-duty thread - Tandy again. The thread can't bend out and poke ya :).

Do a google image search on "crossbreed supertuck" for examples:

I was thinking a stand alone because it will be hard to track down all of the clips and stuff to make it like the CBST. I might alter one of my current CBSTs though. ;)

KAK, . . . there is a company called McMaster-Carr, . . . they're on the web.

They sell kydex in 12 by 12 sheets.

Your kydex can be softened with most heat guns, . . . soften and form it around the weapon as needed, . . . freeze it in place with a wet paper towel you just pulled out of a pan of cold water (no ice cubes, . . . just cold tap water).

Send my an outline of the backer piece of leather you want to use, . . . I'll get you a price on the piece you need. I can also put belt straps and snaps on it if you want.

Take a look at my web site for examples.

May God bless,
Dwight

Kak, the belt connections are the easiest part to make. Just strips of kydex, heated and folded. You don't have to towel-quench 'em if you don't want to, just hold 'em in place with gloves on until they cool.

A dremel tool for drilling holes and polishing edges is your friend!

I would go with the 0.90" for the main Stitching. But thats cool that your making your own holster, Never really come across that much anymore.

Thank you dwight. I will definately be in touch. The first one I make will be a stand alone kydex OWB then I will track you down for some backing to make a supertuck clone. :D

This is some exiting stuff!

Here is the official plan!

This is the holster style. The only thing I am going to change is that I am going to fold over the muzzle area instead of using 2 seperate sheets.

I will be using very thin Concealex in .06 thickness (Carbon Fiber) because it will be IWB I dont want a beefed up holster.

I am going to use 8 chicago screws with 1/4" heads to apply retention pressure and to allow adjustment of clip location.

I am then going to hang 2 of these on the right hand side of the holster to go up and over the waistband and hook to the belt.

What do yall think?? When I get my threaded barrel I am going to cut out the area for it to hang out.

And the best part is it will only cost me about $15 to make and I will have supplies left over for perhaps a cool pocket holster for the LCP.
