Building an M1 Carbine out of parts kit.

I am considering building an M1 carbine from a parts kit and a milsurp receiver (still in the wrap) The parts kits are advertised in SGN as being unissued GI. I think that would make a nice little gun and for all practical purposes, brand new.
Do any of you have experience at this? Would it be really difficult or require special tools? Is it worth it, or should I just get an IMI and forget about it?

I've assembled/reassembled a number of m1s. the only thing the least bit tricky is to have a suitable action wrench. they are available ( actually when I first started fiddling with these, I didn't have one, had never seen one, and so I cobbled one up which, as it turned out, doesn't look at all like the originals, and engages the receiver completely differently, but works just fine. As I said, the rest is a piece of cake. Oh, by the way, You will need a gas piston nut wrench, but every carbine user should have one of those, anyway, for cleaning purposes.

paranoia is just the ticket when THEY really are out to get You!

Get a good manual on the carbine. Brownells has Kuhnhausen's book for $29.95 + S&H. It may tell you far more than you need to know, but it will answer your questions.

I built an M1 Carbine not too long ago. Do you want a shooter or a collector? If you want a shooter, from what I have been told, it will be cheaper and you will have a darn fine firearm with the IMI Carbines. Mine ended up costing quite a bit after I took it to the gun smith and had it parkerized ($500+) and assembled.

If you want to build one and have fun doing it, you can do that too. If it don't matter much and you just want a shooter, buy the IMI.
