Building an AR

I know that first things first. I need a lower. What is a good to very good company to start with and how much. I am not independently wealthy so I will try to keep the whole thing around $1,000.00. I know I can count on you guys, so, thanks in advance. Now, let's build a gun.

While at Surplus Ammo & Arms, I saw the DPMS Oracle. Looks like a good way to get introduced to black rifles. All it needs is optics. Comments?

idk how well built surplus ammo and arms own ar's are but i just purchased this:http://www.surplusammo.com/surplus-ammo-arms-complete-ar-15-m4-16-upper-receiver-5-56-1-9/
this:http://www.surplusammo.com/surplus-ammo-arms-grim-reaper-ar15-complete-lower-with-magpul-moe-stock/

along with moe vertical grip 4 pmags and a set of mbus sights for around 600
dollars. it was impossible to find a decent review on the product so i figured id take the hit. worse case scenario i sell it a little cheaper and know what to tell anyone if they ask about em. btw i bought the upper and lower locally for a real hell of a deal. everything else i purchased online

that's funny, I have the exact same setup on my wish list. I am looking at the build just to say I did it, and I can get the lower now and build as I get the money. Money's tight, I need to liquidate another gun or two to finance this build. I have decided that the Bushnell TDot scope will be the optics.

Check out Brownell's as well. They have pretty good prices. If you are military or civil service I believe you get a discount as well.

Generally a forged lower is a forger lower. Any name-brand should as good as the next. The real differences will mostly be how nicely it's finished. Most are outsourced to only a few companies anyway.

While I certainly understand the pride of ownership aspect you can get a complete off-the-rack colt for roughly $1000.

Here is a good place to start for info on parts if you want to build/buy a serious hard-use rifle instead of just a range toy. There's even a section on lowers. http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=7355

$1000.00 is the very top of my budget, $750 to $800.00 is more comfortable to me. I can see myself putting more the 1000 rounds through it in a year. I don't expect to have to depend on it for my life. Right now, I'm leaning towards building the SAA for under $600 plus the $150 for optics

Noveske, Daniel Defense, LMT, BCM are all top notch but in reality a lower is a lower. As long as they are within spec they will work. These will cost you in the $140-$180 range stripped. For the most part you can choose the one that has a roll mark you like best.

Other good, lower cost options are Stag, Mega, Yankee Hill and Spikes. You will find these in the $100-$140 range stripped.

For a lower parts kit (LPK), Daniel Defense has a very good one and even comes with a Magpul enhanced trigger guard. LMT makes another excellent LPK. Try to stay with a top end manufacture for the LPK like the two I mentioned above.

Sounds wise, a better LPK will treat me better in the long run. Is there anyone out there that makes a bunch of different lowers with special roll marks?

Spikes Tactical. They offer several silly-looking rollmarks (spiders, zombies, jolly roger, biohazard symbol, etc.)

They may look silly, but Spikes really does make an excellent product.

In that case most anything will do you fine. Still might be worth your while to check out the link I posted.

Look up Del-Ton while you're at it. Pretty nice rifle kits for the money. For 1K you can get a nice setup.

You order a rifle kit and then a stripped lower there.
