building a suomi m31

Hey guys, I bought a suomi m31 parts kit to build. The receiver was torched in pieces but I have done my best to reconstruct it. ( I am a machinist). I have it completely built back together, but I cannot get the gun to cock? When I pull back the charging handle it doesn't cock the trigger. Any ideas on what I could have constructed wrong to cause this? thanks
 
Steve Matthews just complete a Suomi build in this edition of Shotgun News. You might be able to reach him through SGN and ask. Since he's documented 2 builds, he's got some experience under his belt.
 
Ummmm---I certainly hope I'm reading your post wrong. You DIDN'T
rebuild the torched receiver to it's original open bolt configuration
did you?

To be legal it's got to be converted to closed bolt semi-auto operation.

+1 on checking out the Shotgun News articles---he knows his stuff.
 
+1 to Bill. BATFE will become very interested if not done correctly. Hence, Matthews normally spends a good amount of time in discussing his builds
(like the semi-auto bren, UZI, etc) on coordinating and seeking approval from BATFE.
