custom rifle
Dear Shooter:
The A-Square manual speaks highly of the 6.5-06. I do too. The doctor from Mayo who I'm training brought a 6.5-06 improved reamer with his 6.5 bbl.
Ackley states that, in his day, the improved gave less velocity than the standard 6.5-06. But, I feel that with todays modern powders will change that.
There are no flies on the 6.5-06 - with the 140 gr bullet (the proper bullert for the 6.5) it is better than the .270. Penetration is always the name of the game and the 6.5 has great sectional density, and thus great penetration. I suspect a cool hunter could, with the proper bullet, take any game on earth - even if he was transported back 100 million years ago!
You'll have to handload, but anyone worth their salt does anyway.
I am firmly convinced, after 50 years of fiddling with actions that there is NOTHING better than a VZ24 military Mauser to build a rifle on!

P.S. - Set that headspace tight!
