buffing off the bs

Just got a Ruger Super Redhawk and I'm really annoyed at the ugly stamp on the barrel which tells me to read the safety instructions. It looks stupid and insults me every time I pick up the gun.

Is there a safe and effective way to buff that out?

It is a slow process but I use sand paper beginning with 180 grit and work it down to progressively finer grit until I get the finish I desire. There are other, faster methods, but this way you do risk creating waves or cups in the surface.

tstr, any buffing you do will put a shine to the area. I think you should just take it to your local smith and let him do it. Then he can polish the entire pistol, bead blast it and it will have a uniform finish. George
