I need more Help! See my last reply.

My AR 15 has a commerical buffer tube with a fixed stock. I want to replace the tube with a mil-spec tube and add a Magpul MOE collapsible stock. My question is since the diameters of each tube is different are the thread diameters the same on both tubes and will the mil-spec tube thread into my receiver?

Oops, I re-read your initial post.

Magpul MOE stock requires a carbine buffer tube. A carbine buffer tube requires a carbine buffer. The carbine buffer tube and buffer are both shorter than the rifle buffer tube and buffer. If you use a long rifle buffer in a short carbine tube, your rifle will short stroke and fail to feed.

Also bear in mind that the buffer assembly is matched to the barrel length. Thus, if you are shooting a 20" barrel, you need the full length recoil spring and long buffer. The spring and buffer are different for a 16" carbine in .223, and different also for the pistol caliber AR's.

You well need a new receiver extension (tube), buffer and buffer spring.

No, a 20" barrel well be fine with the standard carbine RE, buffer and spring. If anything a carbine gas system may benefit from a H or H2 buffer.

I also bought an AR-15 that came with a fixed A2-style stock, and I wanted to add a Magpul stock, and I needed to learn about the stock stuff because I was new to it so,

I found that my Bushmaster came commercial BUT as they said the threads are the same, I needed a new buffer, buffer tube, spring etc. and therefore it could be mil-spec OR Commercial, they screw in the same. I found a deal on a complete kit, I think maybe DSG Arms? I got a Magpul CTR Stock with all the stuff I needed, a Complete Kit, for less than the cost of a Magpul CTR on other sites. They also had the same type of kit for MOE Stocks and ACS Stocks, it was a great deal. You can check around for the type of kit I am talking about, so it gives you what you need to change the stock.

ALSO, I found this out the hard way on my 15-22, now is a good time to add a stock-mounting-plate onto the stock receiver extension AKA Buffer Tube, if you're changing the stuff now, you can add say a Magpul ASAP or a CQD sling mount plate, like i used. this way you do it all at one time.

To All That Have Responded To My Questions... I need more Help!

I just ordered A T7 7075 Mil-Spec Tube complete kit and I'm going to swap them out and use the Magpul MOE stock that I have new in the box. :)

:) Thanks to everyone for the input! :)
