Budget Scout Scope?

Are there any budget priced Scout scopes out there? I've seen the Leopold and the Burris, but they're currently out of my price range. I've read where some shooters are using handgun scopes, but are they really durable enough for a .308? I'm looking for something $150 max. Any suggestions or am I stuck with iron sights for now? Thanks

I am not aware of any budget scout scopes being produced. And to be quite frank if the scope wasn't a burris or leupold I wouldn't buy it. A pistol scope should easily hold up to the recoil of a .308 as the impulse rate would be less than from a magnum pistol. The thing you have to look for with the pistol scope is if the eye relief will work for you on the rifle. With a budget of $150 I would post some adds on the various bulletin boards. I would think that you could come up with a good used leupold or burris scout scope for that price.

I bought one of this Russian scopes because they were cheap and I want something to stick on one of my FAL's with a range finding recticle. They are pretty crisp and built nice. Granted, they are not a Leupold but for the money are a good basic scope. They are 8x56, clear and have the range finder recticle. One inch tube so you can use any standard mount rings. 80 bucks plus S/H

Ebay.

I bought a Nikon 2X pistol scope on Ebay for $72 delivered. I use it in a scout configuration and it works well.

A new Burris scout scope runs right at $200 delivered from Midwayusa. You can probably find it for cheaper elsewhere. Maybe if you could scrape up another $40-50 you could buy what you want, new.
